 The tank has shown no improvement, despite my recent efforts. I know
things
 don't happen over night, but I would have expected a slight improvement.



This makes me wonder. If you manage to remove all the nutrients within say a few days, how long will the algae take to die off? Surely it won't be like flicking a switch. These organisms must have some sort of "reserve tank" built into them that they can live off for a while in the case of storms, strong currents etc. in nature. Anybody have any idea what the extent of these built in "reserves" could be?
