Hi Matt,
Algae comes and goes, Ive had your problem at one time for months, till i
beat it!
I run an in tank DSB, and have no nitrates i can measure. Ive a ro + deion
water supply, so im not adding any phosphates etc, but still the algae
comes. SO, I dont think its just a nitrate thing. I do believe you need to
keep up what youre doing, get more clean up crew, and try to make
improvements. I generally find a hose or filter somewhere thats got a build
up of mulm probably just enough to kick off the algae. Probably due to a
lack of good housekeeping. I know my clean up crew is efficient, cos if
ever i loose a fish, theres hardly any left in a couple of days. I wouldnt
recommend a DSB in the main tank, unless you had no where else to put it.
For anyone who has nitrates, and wants to be rid of them, they work.
stick with it.
Ian

Hey Tobie,

I'm actually in secret negotiations (with myself) as to whether I am going
to go for a 32"x12"x12" DSB in my sump, OR the same size miracle mud (as in
Leng Sy) & caulerpa refugium.

I'll say this now, but obviously I might change my mind in the future, but
I
don't think I'll ever put a DSB in te main tank - it would have to be
remote. But I also said before (Hennie will remember this one......LOL)
that
I would never abandon FO for reefing...... :-)

Cheers,
Matt

 Matt,

The tank has shown no improvement, despite my recent efforts.

You haven't tried a DSB...

Regards,

Tobie
(Wish I could see your face right now, LOL!)
