Hello Colleagues:

I am preparing for a presentation next month and also will write an article on the same topic.

The topic has to do with those elements of the innovation process which support everything else. I have identified four elements:

-- organization
-- creativity
-- interpersonal skills (etiquette)
-- self

l discovered that while being focused and concerned about money, prototype, patent, marketing, licensing, etc. that I needed to be aware of and develop skills in the abovementioned areas.

My definitions:

Organization -- how to gather, record, file, store/archive, and most importantly, retreive information.

Creativity/ness -- how to feed and cultivate your creative thoughts and ideas

Interpersonal Skills/Etiquette -- how to interact with people productivity and politely

Self -- how to stay mentally and physically healthy, how to stay balanced (and married, for some)

I will present my understanding of these concepts and how I suggest to discover, develop, and practice them throughout the process. I claim that one must develop skills in these areas in order to succeed with the other, bigger, stuff. We are just inventors and I for one had never really had to really "develop" these skills so deeply when dealing with something that is so dear and about which I have a lot riding.

Could you share your thoughts and experiences, and give examples of either failures or successes in these areas? Please feel free to post to the listserve to start a thread or write to me privately:

Once I have collected some information, I would then ask permission from those who contributed to include the information in my talk, either with or without your name.

Has anyone else ever thought about these things?

Thanks.

Steve
