METAKNOWLEDGE MASH-UP EVENT REPORT
A comprehensive written report of the KIDMM MetaKnowledge
Mash-up event has now been prepared from the audio recordings
and presenters' slides. This 24-page illustrated document
is available as a PDF from the event's Outputs page:
http://www.epsg.org.uk/KIDMM/mashup2007/outputs.html
A much shorter version is under preparation for distribution
by UKOLN as a report in their on-line magazine "Ariadne".
The all-electronic publication is aimed principally at
information professionals in archives, libraries and

UK National Commission for UNESCO
Last week I had a meeting with Linda Leung, who is Head of
the Secretariat for the UK National Commission for UNESCO.
You may know that there has been a rocky relationship between
the UK government and UNESCO, and Clare Short abolished the
UK National Commission. Two years ago it was re-established
thanks to the support of Hilary Benn, and is now building back
its staff and its programmes.
There are various UNESCO programmes that the Commission is
engaged with, and it may be that for KIDMM's membership in
the museum, library and heritage sector, the UNESCO programme
on Digital Heritage will have the most interest.
Other concerns they are engaged with are World Press Freedom Day,
"Education for All", and the follow-up from the World Summit on
the Information Society.

Other news in brief
On 1st November, I shall be making a brief presentation to the
BCS Specialist Groups Assembly, trying to draw some lessons from
KIDMM's experience which could inform the BCS's policy towards
"knowledge community" initiative.
A reminder that ISKO-UK (the UK chapter of the International Society
for Knowledge Organisation) is holding a free, open event at University
College London on 5 November which looks well worth attending if you're
into classification issues. It's dubbed "Ranganathan revisited: facets
for the future".
