[From Lauren Coodley. To write a letter to Krug Winery, see:

HOW DID THE LOCKOUT START?
On July 3, 2001, the unionized production workers at Charles Krug
unanimously rejected a contract offer of lower wages, elimination of
skilled job classifications, and eroded seniority rights. The Peter
Mondavi family, owners of Krug, responded by locking them out of
their jobs.
IF UNION WORKERS ARE LOCKED-OUT, WHO IS DOING THE BOTTLING AND
PRODUCTION?
While Krug's long-time employees walk the picket line outside the
gates, Krug has hired replacement workers to do their jobs. They may
try to keep permanent replacement workers, eliminating union jobs.
HOW ARE THE WORKERS MAKING ENDS MEET DURING THIS LOCKOUT?
Times have been very hard for these workers. The lockout has resulted
in great hardship for these families. Many workers have been forced
to take other non-union jobs. This is where community support becomes
critical! Email kruglockou-@hotmail.com or call (707)
226-8108 to get involved.
WHAT HAS BEEN DONE TO HELP THESE WORKERS DURING THE LOCKOUT?
The community has rallied around the workers:
=46undraisers, including potluck dinners, dance performances, and union
rallies have been held throughout the valley.
Students at Napa Valley College sponsored a salsa dance to benefit the
worke=
rs.
Students at UC Davis School of Law held a teach-in about the lockout
with speeches by a labor lawyer, a union organizer, and two of the
locked-out workers.
A coalition of unions and religious groups coordinated a toy drive
for the Krug Workers and their families. Everyone celebrated
Christmas together, with presents, cake, and even a visit from Santa.
Bay Area labor activists organized a rally to mark the six month
anniversary of the lockout.
HOW CAN I HELP END THE LOCKOUT?
Don't buy C.K. Mondavi or Charles Krug wines; Ask your union or club
to write a letter telling Peter & Mark Mondavi that they will honor
the boycott until the lockout ends; Tell the winery how you feel by
fax (707) 967-2291 or phone (707) 963-2761; Send donations to the
lockout support fund, payable to Winery Workers Local 186D, to
WestAmerica Bank, One Financial Plaza, Napa, CA 94558.
Charles Krug is the last union winery in Napa --
Please help these workers keep their union!
