[Thanks to Lauren Coodley for forwarding this.]
Dear Mondavi Family,
I love your products and but will not buy any more until you
settle the contract with the Krug workers. Surely a company of your size
and success can do the right thing by this relatively small group of
workers, and give them decent benefits, and pay reasonable wages to
these low-paid workers. Locking them out is outrageous. I will encourage
all my friends, family and colleagues in the California State University
System to boycott your products until a settlement is reached. The
organization I work for represents 20,000 professors and 22 college
campuses.
The universities represented by the California Faculty
Association serve over 300,000 students state wide and have 35,000
employees. We have the capacity to place stories with the student papers
on all 22 campuses to run articles about your company's treatment of its
workers and the boycott of ALL Mondavi/Krug/CK Mondavi products.
Our parent organization (The National Education Association) has
over one million educator members. We have the capacity to get publicity
in the organizations' publications about your treatment of your
employees and the boycott.
Please settle with the Krug workers and notify me when that has
taken place. If I do not hear from you directly that the lockout has
been settled, I will take immediate steps along the lines described
above, such as starting the ball rolling towards getting campus
organizations to endorse the boycott and publicizing this issue
throughout the country's large faculty and student organizations.
Thank you for your consideration. I know you can do the right
thing and the time to do it is now.
