SF Board to vote on Krug worker resolution
Parties remain at standstill
by Staff Writer Heather Osborn
Locked-out Charles Krug workers could get a boost of support from the
San Francisco Board of Supervis-ors next Monday, but with no negotiation
sessions scheduled the standstill between the winery and workers appears
far from over.
A board subcommittee, the Committee on Economic Vitality, Small Business
and Social Justice, has recommended to the supervisors a resolution that
blasts winery management for "employing well-known union-busting tactics
such as replacing union foremen positions with management staff and
eliminating pay raises based on seniority."
San Francisco supervisor Matt Gonzalez brought the resolution to the
board after learning about the lock out from a letter campaign. "We’re
just trying to send a message out to the Charles Krug winery that there
are other communities that are paying attention to what is
happening...," he said.
If the San Francisco Board passes the resolution at the Feb. 4 meeting,
it will join the city of Berkeley, which passed a resolution earlier
this month supporting the locked-out workers.
The St. Helena City Council has not discussed the lockout or heard a
resolution about it.
The community has been supporting the workers by holding fundraisers and
rallies.
