3. Annual county convention is this Saturday
The Libertarian Party of Marion County (LPMC) will hold its annual
convention on Saturday April 18 at 1:00 p.m. at JSReutz Café at the John
H. Boner Community Center located at 2236 E. 10th Street.
This meeting will include special guest Chris Spangle who will report on
his recent travels to the Libertarian State Leaders Alliance Conference.
Additionally, LPMC chairperson Tim Maguire will be leading a special
group exercise for the purposes of leadership and volunteer development.
LPMC County Conventions are held once a year to elect delegates and
alternate delegates for the Libertarian Party state convention, to make
amendments to the county by-laws and to do an annual financial
accounting. Because there are no elections in Indiana in 2009, we will
not be nominating any candidates for office this year.
Please RSVP at Free Hoosiers so we can have a head count:

8. Quotations du jour
"What good does it do me, after all, if an ever-watchful authority keeps
an eye out to ensure that my pleasures will be tranquil and races ahead
of me to ward off all danger, sparing me the need even to think about
such things, if that authority, even as it removes the smallest thorns
from my path, is also absolute master of my liberty and my life; if it
monopolizes vitality and existence to such a degree that when it
languishes, everything must also sleep; and when it dies, everything
must also perish? — Alexis de Tocqueville, Democracy in America [1835]
"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood
of patriots and tyrants. It is a natural manure." - Thomas Jefferson
"It would be thought a hard government that should tax its people one
tenth part." - Benjamin Franklin
"The truth is that all men having power ought to be mistrusted." - James
Madison
"Prohibition will work great injury to the cause of temperance. It is a
species of intemperance within itself, for it goes beyond the bounds of
reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation,
and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law
strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was
founded." Abraham Lincoln (December 18, 1840 to Illinois House of
Representatives)
"The prestige of government has undoubtedly been lowered considerably by
the prohibition law. For nothing is more destructive of respect for the
government and the law of the land than passing laws which cannot be
enforced. It is an open secret that the dangerous increase of crime in
this country is closely connected with this." - Albert Einstein ("My
First Impression of the U.S.A.", 1921)
