At 2:15 am Tuesday (12/4/07) I heard a rather loud noise outside our
house,
followed by another one.
Being a light sleeper, I walked to the window and to my amazement saw
2
adult men rush down my neighbor's driveway and get into their getaway
car :
a white/cream Ford F-150. I think there was a driver already in the
vehicle.
Their lights were off, and they drove down almost to the end of our
street
before turning on the lights and hanging a left on Utah Flats.
Being the block captain, I happened to have my neighbor's cell
number, which
I called at around 2:20 (although hesitant at first). I left a
message for
Patrick and then called 311, who transferred me over to 911. After
getting
the details, APD called me back at 2:30 stating an officer will be
arriving
shortly after they drive around looking for the suspicious vehicle.
The officer arrived a few minutes later and I went out to talk to
him. He
flashed his lights around our cul-de-sac and at my neighbor's truck.
He
didn't see anything suspicious, so I described to him again what I
saw. He
stated that a similar vehicle was reported the night before doing a
few car
break-ins on the "other" side of I-35. He left after 5 minutes or so,
reminding me that I should call 911 and not 311 for things such as
this.
I just spoke to Patrick and he examined his car. It turns out that
the
would-be burglars tried to pry open the toolbox in the back of his
truck
from the passenger side, but were not able to do so. I suspect (and
hope)
the noise scared them. When I saw them enter their vehicle, it
appeared that
they were anxious to leave.

The suspect's vehicle had some wood, tools and a 50-gal tote in the
back. I
didn't see the license plate though :-0

I hope and pray these vandals don't attempt another break-in tonight,
in
Scofield or anywhere else for that matter. Please be alert.

We're going to leave our lights on all night. I normally switch our
alarm on
at night, but was lazy last night. I know better now.
I'm glad Patrick's belongings are all safe. Hopefully the damage to
the car
is not too bad. Another sad event in our great neighborhood.
