FIV has been diagnosed  Joyce Billings
 Dec 13, 2007 22:54 PST

Dear Neighbors of Lamplight Village,

It is with a very sad heart that Tuesday I have had to put down a beloved
cat that was diagnosed FIV positive. For years I have attempted to limit the
stray/feral cat population by trap/neuter/spay program. I would try to find
them a forever home and when no home was available I would turn the loose
with their rabbi's shots and a confirmed negative test for FIV and leukemia.
My purpose for sharing this with you all is to let you know that in the 10
years that I have been doing these rescues this is the first case FIV I have
had diagnosed.   My concern is that there are FIV infected cats in Lamplight
Village. For those of you who have cats and allow them to roam free their
chances of their being infected are increasing. All cats must be spayed or
neutered to prevent a rise in the stray cat population in Lamplight Village.
More cats mean more cats vying for their own territory more cat fights.

FIV is spread by a deep bite wound. Sometimes you will not see an open
wound. Puncture wounds may be hidden by their fur. And NO the vet assured
me that FIV can not be transferred to humans if bitten. I should know for I
was bitten by a stray that required me to go through the rabbis shot serious
this April. OUCH!

Please, Please SPAY - NEUTER.   Thank you for letting me share this with
you.

Thank you Julius for your companionship, you were loved and will be missed.
