Help with Cook Products

We have a problem with the mfg# and vin# with Cook Products. The mfg# for some of their items exceed the number of characters for that field so we have tried truncating them but that makes it difficult to search for the proper item. We tried swapping the 2 numbers but Cook wants the "G" number in our "vin#" field for their identification.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem? What is your solution? Any help would be much appreciated.
