Seeking CA position

I'm hoping to relocate to the southern CA area next year, but would like
to begin job searching before hand. In fact, it would be wonderful to
actually have a job before moving.
I'm currently the Head of Access Services for a private university in
Connecticut, with over three years experience in the position. Before
that I worked for the Brooklyn Public Library system as an Adult
Services Librarian.
Just how is the job market out in CA? Would I be better off going back
to the public libraray areana?
