We--xo--Love--xo--Rob...

A couple of notes from some of you...

Hi Patsy, Rob had written to a couple of times. I really appreciated
that. I am sorry about your loss. I have lost a lot of my family
memebers in the last five years. So I do have some feeling of what you
have gone through. I really enjoyed his news lettter and I am so glad
that you are keeping it up. Diane
*
My reply...to you all now...

Thank you for writing Diane. Yes, Rob really enjoyed hearing from you
guys & loved every one of you. He was full of love & laughter. He is
dearly missed. I find it very difficult to write his story. I cry so
much, remembering his pain...physical & emotional as well.
I cry when I see his name...or anything that reminds me of him. He is
dearly missed. He was such a presence. I know you all miss him too & I
feel sometimes I just HAVE to send an update, like now. I'm sure he's
just giving me a little shove to let you all know that he's up there
thinking of you still. In fact, this whole email should be in his
letter! Lots of love, from Patsy & I'm quite certain...from Rob:)

Happy Mother's Day all!

Mothers are the place where love
Emerges from the earth,
And happiness rings out like bells
In honor of our birth.
Mothers are the sun that lights
For life our inner sky,
So we may know that we are loved
And need not question why.

Mothers are the moon that shines
Upon our black despair,
So even when we weep, we know
That someone's always there.

Whatever fear, or stress, or pain
Might them to anger move,
We know that underneath the storm
We have, always, their love.

A Shattered Life

No Back to Normal for a Hate Crime Survivor.

I walked down the halls of the assisted living center, drab walls
surrounding me. In a place like this a soul would surely despair. In
room after room were old people waiting to die. Around the corner a
young man came into view. He greeted my friend and me and ushered us
into his room.

His name is Sandeep Patel. He is paralyzed from the neck down, and
drives his wheelchair with a straw-like tube that he blows and sucks on
to steer. He cannot go back to his country, India. Why? Because he
wasn’t white!

On April 28, 2000, Richard S. Baumhammers went on a killing spree near
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He shot six people. His victims were Black,
Jewish, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Indian. Patel was the only survivor.

Patel’s room was comfortable, with a hospital bed and voice-activated
TV, radio, and speakerphone. His computer is fitted with a keyboard that
lets him type and surf the web with his mouth. It is amazing how
independent a disabled person can be with these modern technologies.

Patel, now 29, was interesting to talk to, with many ideas that were new
to me. When asked if he could forgive his aggressor, he said that he
doesn’t really care what happens to Baumhammers; God will take care of
him. He didn’t seem to have any anger or pent-up feelings against
Baumhammers.

Understandably, after he was shot Patel sometimes asked, "Why me?" He
said he believes that he must have done something terrible in his former
life, so he is being punished for that evil now. I found this statement
only sad, but you must remember that Patel is Hindu and believes in
reincarnation: that you are treated in this life according to the way
you lived in the life before.

Patel still dreams of seeing his own country again. The journey would be
difficult because he can’t manage such a long plane ride, and it would
be hard to get the medical care that is available here in the United
States.

Patel is lucky though. He has family nearby. His parents and sister
visit him as often as they can, and he has friends, but he still gets
depressed sometimes. He says, "What is my future?"

It was a good exchange. Although we had a few difficulties communicating
because Patel is still learning the English language, I learned a lot
about religion, coping with tragedy, and the hardships of other people’s
lives. I hope to keep up the contact.

Sandeep sounds like a courageous person. This man has clearly coped with
tragedy with courage and fortitude. I also hope that author is able to
keep up the contact because disabled people are still people and need to
be loved and accepted as such.
I know this having loved & helped care for my now passed on husband Rob.
I believe in Jesus Christ & in Romans 8:28 it tells us that everything
happens for a reason. And the scriptures also say repeatedly that we are
to forgive anyone who wrongs us just as Christ has forgiven us. And in
Christ we can find strength to go on no matter what happens in our
lives.

We all need to stop with discrimination & prejudice of different sorts
in our lives, whether it's racial, people's looks, disabled person's,
etc. etc. EVERYONE is equal in God's eyes & should be in ours as well.

Thank you Bruderhof:)

As promised I will add a short note here to carry on where Rob left off.
He would want that I think. It isn't easy to do,as it hurts with every
word I write, but, I'll try.
Love, Patsy

Rob's own story 64
While Rob was sinking into the depths of despair over the thoughts of
being in a wheelchair for the rest of his life, he also started to see
the positive side to this situation. The Doctors were right, the
infection started to heal. It took a long time however, due to his body
taxed so much in the care of a bedridden wife. He had brought in some
help from the Fokus Unit, to help with her care, while he was unable to
do anything much besides suffer pain. Bett didn't like the way the
workers did things, as they weren't exactly as Rob did them & they paid
no attention to other kinds of 'needs' she tried to lure them into, with
her outlandish stories, ideas, & lies. Rob would try to run errands
while she was with the Fokus Group...another advantage now, he could get
around better, faster, than before. Could this be a place of
improvement? A better lifestyle?
Till next time...
Patsy for our beloved Rob

You’ve heard of Identity Theft, but what about Energy Theft! Is your
'get-up-and-go' being stolen by energy thieves?

Shallow Breathing-
This is a classic case of energy theft! Not taking deep, full breaths
deprives your body of oxygen and makes you feel tired and fatigued.

Emotional Pain-
Hurt, sadness and anger are too heavy to carry with you at all times.
Drop off some of these negative emotions during the day - exercise it
out, talk to someone who cares, and work on forgiving those who have
hurt you.

Doing too much-
Giving to others is important, but make sure you don’t overbook. Doing
too much will only make you feel burned out - and it’s difficult to do
anything when you don’t have energy.

Forgetting your Spiritual side-
You give your body and mind a lot of attention during the day, but your
spiritual side needs attention too. Focusing on this aspect of your
life for a few minutes each day can add inspiration and joy to your
life.

Not eating nutritiously-
Energy is stolen the minute you eat meals and snacks that aren’t
nutritious. Give your body the nutrients it needs with healthy, natural
food and TriVita targeted nutrition.

Watching too much TV-
It’s fine to watch programs you enjoy, but are you 'zoning out' in front
of the tube? Ask yourself how much you’re enjoying the program you’re
watching. If you’re only watching because you can’t think of anything
else to do, shut the TV off and do something you really enjoy. Garden,
go for a walk, play with a pet, call a friend, or read.

Being ungrateful-
Not being grateful for the wonderful big and small things in life steals
your energy. Noticing all of the things you have in life makes you feel
warm with joy.

Worry-
Worrying is a part of life, but when you worry about things you can’t
control, you use up energy you could be using to enjoy your life. The
next time you get stuck in a cycle of worry, distract yourself by doing
a crossword puzzle, gardening, or going for a walk.

Not letting others help you-
We all need a helping hand now and then. When you resist help from
family and friends, you drain your energy. Accept help from others and
look for opportunities to return the favor. Get the energy you need with
TriVita’s 2-Step Energy System which includes Sublingual B-12, B-6 and
Folic Acid* and Energy Now ( International )

ARTHRITIS
Michael J. Shuler Sr. from Langley, Washington writes; "The sting of a
bumble bee will help ease the pain of arthritis for 30 days. One old man
recommended capturing the bee and placing it on the top of his bald
head. He did this religiously. A bumble bee has a fairly mild sting
similar to a honey bee." Thanks Michael! Now, how do you capture those
little ole' bees?

GOUT
Neutralize the uric acid and flush it out! Drink three to four cups of
one of these tea's a day: yarrow, dandelion, celery seed. My favorite
tea to rinse out that old uric acid is corn-cob tea! Just get three corn
cobs and simmer in a four cups of water. Strain and keep in the fridge
and just heat it and drink after meals. Eat four ounces of fresh
cherries a day. Or take one tablespoon of cherry concentrate three times
a day. Elevate joint and take ibuprofen. Never take aspirin for gout!
Apply ice and drink lots of water. Do not eat any of the following:
Anchovies, gravy, sardines, cauliflower, mushrooms, clams, oatmeal,
shellfish, spinach, and no alcohol!
