Re: Summary of info on lottery & continuation  sun-@hooprama.com

Am I the only 4th grade parent who is so completely depressed to be leaving
Lockeland? I of course am filling out my forms for Madeline, but trying not
to really think about it because it makes me so sad.

I cannot believe that the years passed so quickly... and I am so incredibly
thankful for all the other 4th grade parents who took a chance on our little
school and enrolled with us on the very first year as the new design
center. Our first year the school was half-filled and the principal was
begging for parents to enroll... now five years later parents are begging to
get in!

To have watched our little school grow (and our children grow) so
beautifully, is a testament to our fabulous neighborhood and the powerful
parental support. I truly believe that east nashville would not be half of
what it is today if it were not for the transformation of that school- now
we see kids and moms (and dads) walking the streets and people with young
children moving in and not out! Sure wasn't the case when I moved here just
6 short years ago!

NO!!!! In regards to Item 1--if your child is staying at Lockeland you
will need to complete a continuation form. These forms will be sent home
on January 12, 2009 and will be due January 28, 2009 (very short turn
around). I remember a couple of years back, a very nice family failed to
turn in the continuation form and thus got "booted" from Lockeland (and also
lost sibling preference for their rising kindergartner as well). Bottom-line,
presume there is always some form that needs to be completed and if you
don't know what form you need, find out before it is too late....
*January 12, 2009 - CONTINUATION LETTERS**
*The schools participating in the lottery will send home a continuation
letter. (This affects students who will be changing grades, but staying in
the same school for next year.)

*January 28, 2009 - DEADLINE - CONTINUATION LETTERS*
Continuation letters must be returned to the Magnet/Optional School by this
date.

Perhaps this is a time for a summary of all the acquired information? I
believe this is all correct.
Thank you all for finding this out.

1) If your child is staying at Lockeland (currently K-3), you don't have
to do anything. Just come back next fall.

2) If you have a child starting kindergarten in 2009, fill out the form and
turn it in for the lottery. Be sure to mark the sibling section.

3) If you have a 4th grader, submit the East Lit. continuation letter *IF
* you want to hold your place for that school. You can also submit the
lottery letter *IF* you want to be considered for other schools. Mrs.
Spencer needs to fill out a part of that form if the school you are
interested in is a magnet school.

4) Take it to the the Bransford Ave. Board of Education to submit.
