Hello Alicia,
Thanks for the information. I didn't mean to send my email to everyone,
but thanks for replying. I believe Alex is in Ms. Quarles class with my
daughter, Lauren.
:-)

Schools
Jill,
Do you mean plan on staying at Lockeland (as in you have a 2nd grader
who will be attending for 3rd grade)? There is a different form
(letter) that deals with that - a continuation letter. It's all very
confusing and, just so you know, they changed things up a little bit
this year to make it easier for us. :-)
Below is the important date information from MNPS website.
Alicia Riggans
(Mom to Alex-1st & Sam-4th)
November 3, 2008 - APPLICATIONS SENT HOME
Applications will be sent home by all schools. This includes "pathway
continuation forms" for Magnet/Optional students moving from elementary
to middle or middle to high school.
November 6, 13, 20 December 4 - "WALK-THROUGH THURSDAYS"
Parents can visit magnet schools during these dates.
November 10 - December 4 - MAGNET SCHOOL OPEN HOUSES
The open house schedule for each school will be announced soon.
December 5, 2008 - APPLICATION/PATHWAY DEADLINE
Parents return forms to the Magnet/Optional Office. This deadline
includes all Magnet/Lottery applications as well as the "pathway
continuation forms" for Magnet/Optional students moving from elementary
to middle or middle to high school.
No New applications will be accepted after this date except for families
new to MNPS.
January 10, 2009 - LOTTERY DAY
The Magnet/Optional School Lottery will be held on this date.
January 12, 2009 - CONTINUATION LETTERS
The schools participating in the lottery will send home a continuation
letter. (This affects students who will be changing grades, but staying
in the same school for next year.)
January 21, 2009 - ACCEPTANCE/WAIT LIST LETTERS
The acceptance and wait list letters will be mailed.
January 28, 2009 - DEADLINE - CONTINUATION LETTERS
Continuation letters must be returned to the Magnet/Optional School by
this date.
February 6, 2009 - DEADLINE - ACCEPTANCE LETTERS
The acceptance letter must be returned to the Magnet/Optional Office by
this date.

Subject: [LOCKELAND PTO]: Applications to both East and other Magnet
Schools
Lockeland Parents,
Today, I asked Chris Weber at the Central Office whether we
can apply for automatic enrollment at East Lit AND also apply to other
Magnets. Yes, we can. The two forms we received are independent, and
we can complete both. We only "lose" enrollment in East if we return an
acceptance letter from another Lottery School. His complete answer is
below.

Subject: RE: Question about Choice, Lockeland and East Lit
Hello Richard,
Your understanding is correct, the two forms are mutually
independent. You can fill out the pathway to East as well as apply for
other schools in the lottery. If you were to fill out a lottery
application you would not be removed from your seat at East. Your seat
at East would only be removed if you were to return an acceptance letter
for another lottery school.
I hope this answers your question.
Thank you,
Chris
