Resolve not--Do!
Copyright (c) 2006 by Benjamin Devey
If you love to make resolutions, please keep doing what you love.
I think every day is a new start to move toward your dreams and desires.
I really, truly want to write meaningful books, so I spend about two
hours each day, stringing letters together with the occasional
punctuation, like a room full of monkeys at typewriters. The longer I
keep up the monkey habit, the more I enjoy the process. Would you like
to preview an excerpt from a novel I’m working on? Here’s an excerpt:
“A twilled dertov intix menomph. estrid zo fozzop errata frog…”
Okay, maybe the monkey approach needs fine tuning.
Personally, I believe every day is a new beginning, and the best time
for change is now. Christ's atonement is available, and the need for
repentance is ever present. If I need to make a change in my life, it's
something I should be working on constantly, not putting off to some
future day.
Whatever you want in life is possible. The question is what are you
willing to give for what you want most? If you want to write a book,
just start writing daily. Want to improve your relationships? Do it now
and continue at it every day. Want to find love in your life? Then give
of yourself and radiate love to those around. Love is like a magnet. It
attracts the same force that it gives.
Before I share some goofy ideas for New Year’s Resolutions that I’ve
shared in the past, Here are some serious thoughts that touched me
today:
“Tenderness and kindness are not signs of weakness and despair, but
manifestations of strength and resolution”
--Kahlil Gbran
And one from Abraham Lincoln, who said, “Charity for all and malice
toward none”: “On the whole, my impression is that mercy bears richer
fruits than any other attribute.”
Here are some ideas for New Year's resolutions. Some are for fun. Others
are serious. Tell us some of your resolutions.
RESOLUTIONS 2002

was a good year.
Send Christmas Cards on April 6th.
Teach the dog to flush the toilet after using it.
Treat every person as a son or daughter of God.
Balance your healthy diet with complex carbohydrates like chocolate.
Hug your wife and kids.
Create a fortune this year and give it to your favorite charity.
Give yourself and others a break.
Earn an honest income, save, and spend SOME of it wisely.
Let God into your decisions, while taking responsibility for your own
choices.
Teach the kids to get rich AND be generous to their parents.
Tell every person how important he or she is to you.
Learn to feel good about saying NO.
Laugh a lot.
Share love, money and talents generously.
Keep judgment and criticism to yourself like a miser.
Learn all you can.
Trade in the mint-condition treadmill for the massager/recliner you've
always wanted.
Do take a walk to enjoy nature.
Spend time with your loved ones.
Take a vacation day for YOU.
Thank God for something you've never noticed before.
Conspire to do a perfectly anonymous good deed.
Call the person who just came to mind.
Find a quiet moment to yourself.
Give a back rub or foot massage.
Read that book you've been meaning to get to someday.
Address a nagging need inside.
Pay off debt.
Smile for yourself and others.
That ONE little treat won't hurt you--finishing off the box will.
Recognize what the Spirit is trying to tell you.
Watch one TV program instead of the entire night's line-up.
If you love 'em tell 'em.
Bless those you love,
Benjamin
