Not sure about today's Harley but back when I worked at a Honda dealership
(1973-1993) and was told about how the guy had a real American bike and not
a Goldwing (engine made in Anna, OH and bike made in Marysville, OH) I had
my standard reply for back then.
Suspension - Showa (subsidiary of Honda)
Carburetor - Keihin (subsidiary of Honda)
Transmission gears - Made in Romania
Pistons - Germany
Mag wheels - Japan
There is probably more but I can't remember and it has changed today anyway.
Though there is talk of building softtails in China.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the U.S. content and the jobs HD supplies
and in some ways I even like the bikes and some of those outsourced
components are very high quality and this why they were purchased. One of
my biggest problems with HD (besides their being way overpriced) is I
despise floorboards and feet forward riding positions. All their bikes are
set up that way. I can't even reach the pegs on a first edition V-Rod.
Why, also, is the bike you buy just a starter kit upon which you have to
dump even more money to make it tolerable? An 1800cc engine that most
1000's can beat without trying makes little sense. Yes, my 1200cc Guzzi is
not the fastest but I'll put against a stock HD any day. The Buell was a
nice bike and if I was 15 years younger I'd rush out and buy an 1125. At
what they are selling for I am half ready to buy one anyway but 6 bikes in
the garage is enough. Still, you would think with the large profits they
have had over the past few years and their large R&D department that they
would be able to design their own engine and make it here in the U.S.
instead of a Porsche design made in Europe.

I would have to disagree that they make "most" or even many ofd their
parts overseas. I know the major components are US made. Perhaps some
smaller parts are not, but certainly far from most. Not to mention
employing a large number of Americans.
Not knocking foreign bikes by any means, as I have a few myself. But
Harley, believe it or not IS indeed still an American company making an
iconic American product.
