Diana, Ron and all,

I have watched the DVDs many times now, as usually I
show them to my students in diferent contexts, when
the discussion on synesthesia and visual music
surfaces in my courses. It´s specially cool when we
can see them in a room with a large screen - not a
cinema room, but a college classroom with projection
and sound system.

The control Ron has developed on his laser-synthesizer
set-up is amazing, and the craftmanship developed for
producing such complex forms in real time is certaily
unique - I have never seen anything similar, but I
don´t know about it in countries where there are much
larger use of technological resources. However, people
doing digital things I see around do not have this
combination of low-tech, analogical synthesis and
laser - it´s Pellegrino´s exclusive know-how.

It´s a pity I don´t have the good projection rooms all
times I´d like to have them, so it´s just some weeks
each semester.

It´s a pity also that it´s very dificult to find a
room with a sound device which corresponds to Ron´s
acoustic expectations - good spakers, well placed,
etc. Seems that our culture is so focused in visuals,
that colleges put a lot of money in image projection,
but there´s not a single room where I can work with
sound the way it should be...

I´m working hard here in my thesis. Hope I´ll finish
in time...

best for you all, from Brazil

Sérgio

I finished the 4 DVD Visual Music Studies set a few
months ago then
started on the e-book that goes with the set so
folks outside the inner
circle might find some sense in the piece. Then as
the wind willed I
found myself in the abyss again because I passed the
baton (my
sanctuary project of the past three plus years) to a
woman who picked
up on it. So just a few hours ago I returned from a
week in Olympia,
WA (very beautiful country on south Puget Sound)
searching for a place
to start up a new sanctuary project. This time the
wind is composed of
multiple swirls and cross currents. I'm guessing
the wind thinks my
past tests in the abyss were too simple-minded so
it's time for me to
learn to deal with some cranked-up levels.

Hope all are well and hard at work.

Ron

 Ron, all,

Very excited. Just got Ron's DVD open on my new
Mac iBook and am
 playing
pieces in my office (while I am of course supposed
to be doing other

Definitely better than worrying about the
election. It is capturing,
hypnotic. Such tight integration of light and
sound.

More to come.
