Re: moving every year  Diana Slattery

Well, all, what an interesting theme, as I find myself woven in as well. In
October, I was suddenly pushed very hard from within that it was high time I
rearranged my life and space to include exactly that multimedia studio space
which I have been visualizing for over a year in some specificity. The
theme is Domeworks, "the dome of the immaculate projection", a complex
metaphor that, like a flying saucer, said, its time to land on Earth. From
vision to (this kind of) reality. So--within 3 weeks, I found the house
with the in-house studio (about the size of Ron's in Dallas) and all other
requirements in place, sold existing house to first person in the door,
close on the 30th and move New Year's Eve. It was incredibly fast, once I
said yes to the "landing" and went along with accelerated actualization.

Ron, are you headed for UT Dallas or Texas Women's University? At any rate,
I have good friends in both places, and will make introductions if you
desire.

Also, the Planetary Collegium (the program formally known as CAiiA-STAR)
will be in Dallas for 10 days in April--we'll be giving some kind of
Symposium as well--hope you are there by then and we can meet. Will send
details.

Jim--thanks for the Subtle Tech reminder. I will definitely apply for this
year. I hope others on the list will as well. It's a great conference, as
Todd, Sergio, and I can attest.

And so, the best of holidays to all, love the Buddha with Santa hat, Todd.

All the best,

Diana

 Ron,

Sounds like a very singular way of producing and
finding inspiration. Most people I know work their
lives to be able to have one appropriate place which
should be like an extension of themselves, where one
can have his own library, his Cds (and vinils!) and
invite friends to play, work or just visit.

In fact, as much as I´d like to be able to travel
much more than I do, to meet people, and to know
places and cultures which I´m sure would make of
myself an richer soul, my personal dream is to be able
to have my own multimedia studio, where I could play,
rehearse, compose, write, experiment with different
media, etc...

Your way of doing it is quite remarkable. I hope one
of the next times that I may travel to US I may be
able to know one of your sanctuaries!

As you might expect, I give the moving issue a lot
of thought.

At the root level I'm a student. A long time ago I
bought into the
idea that the reason for living is learning which,
in my mind, is
directly connected with that evolutionary imperative
notion. There's a
long tradition of mobile learning. Not for
everyone, but definitely
for some.

To me there's nothing sweeter than the exercise of
freedom - it's a
form of prayer of gratitude. One of the problems
with that exercise is
that the older you get the more expensive it gets in
every way
particularly with the toll it takes on your body and
being.
Nevertheless, once again I find it a fascinating
field test of the
subcultures that give form to our times.

One of the art forms I've explored for almost four
decades is turning
neglected spaces into sanctuaries and then passing
them on to people
who resonate with them. When I sense that a space
is in tune I begin
thinking about moving and taking on another project.

I devote a lot of energy to the study of human
nature and once I get a
good sense of a subculture I tend to look for a new
one to explore.
There are plenty of constants but the variations
provide mountains of
food for thought.

And Pellegrino means pilgrim which might be why so
much to me seems to
point toward motion.

No motion, no music.

Hi Raewin and Ron and all,

Have you read Constance Classen's "Wolds of
Sense"?
She's a Canadian Anthropologist and works with a
group
which have been writing about anthropology of the
senses. She devotes a chapter to feral children,
and
given the nature of your work, I suspect you do
know
 the book.

Part of my work is going in this direction now.

Ron, as much as I understand you keep on moving
every
year? All the time last year when you were talking
about Petaluma I felt as it was a place you were
building to live for a long time. Good luck on
this
new place and best vibes from Brazil.

best for all metapeople there

Ron, re the string theory and creating images
that

 have a
correspondence to scientific imaging, although
coming from a completely
different path. I spent the last couple of months
creating a story
around feral children and then found an almost
identical one in Greek
mythology....

Holiday Greetings to all of you.

Lately PBS in the USA has broadcast some
beautiful

Their

 mostly tentative

About to end my surfing of the abyss as it looks
like the next ledge

-

 sweet winter sunny
acre that includes a 1K sq ft in-house studio
and

 a huge backyard

is
