Re: moving every year  Diana Slattery

Ron,

I call the band of angels "the event planners" after hearing a heated
discussion on the Donald Trump show "The Apprentice" when one of the
contestants said, "Just get out of their way. They're event planners. They
know what they're doing!" The term--and the advice--stuck--being very down
to earth, which allows me to make it real without so much get worried about
how bizarre it is (at baseline reality) to believe (much less communicate
one's belief) that this has something to do with how the world actually
runs. We can (sometimes, usually in crisis or irresolvable problem time)
open to divinatory methods as a source of advice (leaving the chance gaps
for the spirits, cyber or otherwise, to slip through. So "event planners"
is my frame. As to the apparent ease: it was easy at all until I let go
and let it happen. And even so--the experience has been very close to in a
very literal sense giving birth. Having a baby involves pushing something
much too big through much too small--at first--an opening, with the labor
actually being done by muscles you have never experienced in action, that
are stronger than any others, and totally not under willful control. It's
the ultimate get out of the way experience. My theory is that all the
breathing techniques and such mainly function to give you something to do to
feel in control of while distracting one from trying to control the actual
process. This "gate of change" was the same kind of thing only with time
compression--what seemed like an impossible number of seemingly very risky
things to do in far too short a time (like I was leaving for China for 3
weeks) but the event planners managed it all superbly. My one big point of
"act" was the point where I agreed to let it happen, "it" being to follow
heart's truth.

As you say, we each have our path. This is my first real studio space. I'm
going to be 64 in February. As Leonard Cohen says, tongue in cheek, "Life
leads the thoughtful man on a path of many windings."

Happy New Year to all! I'll be moving!

Best,

Diana

Well, all, what an interesting theme, as I find myself woven in as
well. In
October, I was suddenly pushed very hard from within that it was high
time I
rearranged my life and space to include exactly that multimedia studio
space
which I have been visualizing for over a year in some specificity. The
theme is Domeworks, "the dome of the immaculate projection", a complex
metaphor that, like a flying saucer, said, its time to land on Earth.
From
vision to (this kind of) reality. So--within 3 weeks, I found the
house
with the in-house studio (about the size of Ron's in Dallas) and all
other
requirements in place, sold existing house to first person in the door,
close on the 30th and move New Year's Eve. It was incredibly fast,
once I
said yes to the "landing" and went along with accelerated
actualization.

Your story is a smile generator. I'm happy for you. Sounds like you
might a have a band of angels pouring out that flying saucer attending
to all the details that make for smooth transitions.

Normally my transitions are fairly smooth but this one has been a
prolonged study in effort, determination, and perseverance and it ain't
over yet. My mantra has been "keep your eye on the target" and given
my scanner nature it seems that constant reminder is what's driving
this transition, one that has taken the form of a series of targets, a
new one always emerging from the backside of the last bull's eye.
Sergio's arguments for settling down are all good. But it boils down
to our differences being differences in rhythms. How we articulate our
time in all our contexts is what gives each of us our unique form.
Music theory and analysis at the more advanced levels is a very good
model for this way of thinking.

Ron, are you headed for UT Dallas or Texas Women's University? At any
rate,
I have good friends in both places, and will make introductions if you
desire.

Neither and both. The Dallas area is one of collection that I've
researched over the years and this time it gave me the nod. I intend
to enjoy the offerings of both institutions as well as to explore the
scene in Dallas, one of America's great dream cities. I've done gigs
and know some folks very well in both institutions but the fact is that
my favorite part of the exploratory phase is when I'm mostly anonymous.
So I'm looking forward to letting that phase run its course while I
put another roughneck band together to tune my inside/outside
living/working space.

Also, the Planetary Collegium (the program formally known as
CAiiA-STAR)
will be in Dallas for 10 days in April--we'll be giving some kind of
Symposium as well--hope you are there by then and we can meet. Will
send
details.

Please keep me informed. I don't want to miss it.

Jim--thanks for the Subtle Tech reminder. I will definitely apply for
this
year. I hope others on the list will as well. It's a great
conference, as
Todd, Sergio, and I can attest.

And so, the best of holidays to all, love the Buddha with Santa hat,
Todd.

All the best,

Diana

Regards to all.
