ARCH RIGHT-WINGER EXPECTED TO BRING UP SECRET BILL
ECHOING BUSH'S ENDORSEMENT OF SHARON POLICIES
Act now - vote expected Wed., 23 June 2004
[From the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee
<http://www.adc.org/>]
Rep. Tom DeLay (R-TX), Majority Leader in the House of Representatives,
is expected to bring a bill endorsing Israeli Prime Minister Ariel
Sharon's policies on Palestine to a vote in the House on Wednesday, 23
June 2004.
Though neither DeLay's office nor the House International Relations
Committee will release the bill's language before it comes to the floor
for consideration, Congress watchers expect that its content will follow
closely George Bush's recent endorsement of Sharon's plans, including
withdrawal from some Israeli settlements in Gaza, but also continued
military occupation of the West Bank, further construction of the
separation wall within the Palestinian territories, and permanent status
for most of the Israeli settlements in the West Bank.
Such a bill would enshrine Bush's reversal of thirty years of United
States foreign policy. Instead of a policy based (at least in principle)
on international law, Security Council resolutions, and recognition of
the Palestinian people's right to participate as a full and equal party
in negotiations affecting their fundamental interests, the bill would
give a blanket endorsement to Sharon's unilateral approach.
Tell your Representative that endorsing Sharon's policies will do
nothing to bring peace and justice closer in the Middle East.
