MAJOR MARCHES ARE SCHEDULED FOR SAN FRANCISCO, LOS ANGELES,
NEW YORK, CHICAGO, SEATTLE, MINNEAPOLIS, AND FAYETTEVILLE

After two years of war and occupation in Iraq, the death toll has
climbed well beyond 100,000 Iraqis, according to credible estimates, as
well as more than 1,500 Americans. Many thousands more have been maimed.
Iraq's environment and infrastructure have been devastated, violence and
fear are the order of the day, and most people lack jobs and even basic
health services. Halliburton, Bechtel, and scores of other corporate
giants have pocketed billions of tax dollars badly needed for social
programs at home, but their much-hyped reconstruction efforts have
accomplished next to nothing - most of the Iraqi population still can't
even count on reliable electric power or clean water.
As for democracy - the main remaining justification for the war after
all the original arguments collapsed in the face of the facts - Bush,
Blair, and their supporters continue to boast about the recent Iraqi
election; yet they show no sign of honoring the number-one demand of
most Iraqis, stated in the platform endorsed by Iraqi voters in that
election: a clear plan and timetable for ending the occupation of their
country.
