SUPPORT SLAIN SOLDIER'S MOTHER IN HER TEXAS VIGIL
CALLING ON BUSH TO END OCCUPATION OF IRAQ
[From Friends Committee on National Legislation <http://www.fcnl.org>,
Crawford Peace House <http://www.crawfordpeacehouse.org>, United for
Peace and Justice <http://www.unitedforpeace.org>, and others.]

Thousands of people have joined Cindy Sheehan -- whose son, Army
Specialist Casey Sheehan, was killed in Iraq -- in her vigil outside
George Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas. Cindy, other military families,
and the Crawford Peace House (founded by Texas Quakers) are protesting
the deaths of Casey, other U.S. soldiers, and tens of thousands of
Iraqis in the invasion and occupation of that country, and calling on
the president to end the war in Iraq.

Cindy is demanding a meeting with the president so he can tell her why
her son died and she can tell him why she wants an end to the war in
Iraq. The vigil has touched a nerve in the U.S., provoking tens of
thousands of people to express their support, generating thousands of
stories in newspapers and on television, and even leading Time Magazine
to publish a long article by Cindy the week of 14 August 2005.

Take Action
-----------------------------------

In five minutes, you can use the FCNL web site to send letters to George
Bush, to your senators, and to your representative supporting Cindy and
calling for an end to the war in Iraq. Please edit the sample letters
provided to include your own words, thoughts, and experiences.
Personalized messages have a much greater impact with elected officials
than form letters.

1. Write a message to President Bush urging him to meet with Cindy
Sheehan, explaining that you share her concerns about the war in Iraq:

2. Write to your senators. Tell them you support Cindy and her call for
an end to the war in Iraq. Tell them that when military authorization
and military spending bills come before the Senate (as soon as
September), you want them to offer amendments to bring U.S. troops home:

3. Urge your representative to support legislation currently before the
House of Representatives that would make it U.S. policy to bring the
troops home from Iraq:

4. John Rep. John Conyers's campaign to generate 1,000 Letters to the
Editor. Complete with talking points, a letter from 39 Members of
Congress, and more:

5. Organize a "Camp Casey" vigil in support of Cindy Sheehan's protest
in front of your local Federal building or other appropriate venue on
Saturday, 20 Aug 2005 or another date in the near future, or join one
already being arranged:
