Re: what's in you garage?  Craig Kenfield

Hey Guys,

I've been meaning to stir up the list but it seems my toy fund has
dried up, so not much to talk about lately...

I stopped by the place in Ypsi on Saturday - I couldn't go during the
event but got there earlier and checked things out. Seemed like decent
people and could be a nice spot - I hope they can make a go of it. If
I were A) closer and B) drank coffee I could see dropping in there
pretty regularly. Maybe they'll get a good business from college kids
on CB350s? Seems to be a bunch of those hanging out at
caferacer.net... I'm sort of out of it when it comes to the trendy
stuff so I have no idea how big the "scene" is these days.

Projects - like I said, my toy fund is non-existent these days so not
much progress. I committed to some alloy bodywork by Evan Wilcox right
before the bottom dropped out of the auto industry. I thought about
canceling but decided what the hell. Damn the torpedoes, full speed
ahead. Maybe in about a year when it's finally paid for I can start
buying more parts again...

But enough whining. Not sure if I've posted updates here so, um, well,
here are the updates:

The 160 Monza Jr now has a seat that I'm not thrilled with but it will
do until I get the nerve/cash to pull off the new cover, reshape the
foam again, and have it re-recovered. Tank and seat aren't at the
right angles in this shot but you get the idea:

General info on the project:

The engine case has now been MIA for over three years, awaiting repair
by a well meaning but very busy friend... I should see him in Indy at
the MotoGP to prod him yet again.

The aforementioned bodywork is going on my 250 Monza which has morphed
into a 350 Bitsa. Latest discoveries on that are the front rim isn't
going to work with my hub, so I need to bite the bullet and get
Buchanan's to drill some Excels for me. So much for saving money
mixing and matching parts. Also discovered Evan's method of mounting
the bodywork isn't going to fly for me so I'm redesigning that. I'm
making the hold down for the front of the seat way too complicated so
I'm waiting for inspiration on the simple, elegant solution. And
finally, the "they look just like the ones on a Mach 1" shocks I
ordered from Australia don't look much like the shocks off a Mach 1,
so I'll be having to modify those too. Or biting the bullet and buying
real shocks for it... once again, all that money I saved by taking a
chance....

Here's the general look for that bike. It's not very far along so
don't take any of the parts/colors too seriously...

And the general info on it:

And look at that. Even with nothing to say I've managed to ramble on!

What is happening out there in MotVinMoto land?

I heard battle of the Brits is moving? Matt did you tell me that at
VMD? Todd has the mightly Royal Enfield Interceptor made it back to
pavement yet? Craig what Ducti bevel are you restoring now? Kevin
what
under powered Italian antique have you been riding in the local park?

Darrell I am again making some progress on the Gemini. Tank is
getting
a second treatrment of synth-phosphate. Carb is scattered in a pie
tin
after a short dunk in the good stuff waiting to be assembled. I am
looking forward to exploring that single plate clutch next.

What did everyone think about the MetroTimes cafe racer article?
anyone
know those Yipsi guys?
