RE: what's in you garage?  Matt Schelosky

It's been a busy summer as usual and progress on motorcycles has slowed
since getting married in May, however I have slipped in a few late nights
so here's the updates:

The '73 Aermacchi SS350 was completed in the spring and tagged along in the
truck down to Myrtle Beach for the honeymoon. On the way down and back we
planned rides in WV and in NC/TN but rain put a damper on that. We did end
up getting some riding in down in Myrtle Beach and in North Carolina. I've
had a few mechanical issues to sort out since then, the points gap closed
up and the condenser failed on the way to work one day, it made it into the
parking lot but wouldn't restart for the ride home. Riding w/ the failed
condenser may have led to an exhaust valve guide building up with carbon as
well. I've also been playing with jetting, I had a 27mm Dellorto
installed, but I had a few pings from the engine riding to the cafe racer
show in ypsi on that 90+ degree day. I've since installed a 30mm Dellorto
I picked up at mid ohio with a richer needle and main which greatly
improved mid range and top end (85mph is all I've push it so far) and no
more pinging. I've been riding it to work the last three weeks and nothing
else has shaked out, I'm beginning to grow fond of that little electric
start button on the handle bars... Pictures of the 350 are up on my VinMoto garage link below.

The Interceptor had one ride on it early this summer and then Todd hinted
at riding up to the RE rally in Canada. A little unsure of the condition
of the top end and the loud valve train noises, I pulled the heads and
cylinders off to check everything out. The exhaust valve guides and stems were worn
so the heads went off to TT motorcycles in Mt. Clemens to be fitted with
new guides and valves. The bigger issue was the right cylinder sleeve had
a crack that traveled about 1" up from the base. I'm currently waiting for
a new cylinder liner from Hitchcocks to arrive and then everything will be
shipped down to Bore Tech in OH to be rebuilt.

The 74 Elsinore has been trouble free and made it to a few vintage
motocross races at Log Rd and up North. The RD 250 got bolted back
together, complete with clubman bars, rear sets, and expansion chambers.
It has a few laps up and down the street on it but the right cylinder is
spitting transmission oil so it's currently on hold until time permits
further investigation.

Back to the Mods vs. Rockers show at the new Cafe Racer shop in Ypsi, a lot
of neat bikes came out of the woodwork along with some interesting
characters who owned them. Bikes including a bobbed square four, lots of
older Japanese 2 and 4 strokes, a John Player Norton and Dunstall
accesorized Norton, a Ducati 750 GT, and even a few Lambrettas. Todd also
made it there later in the evening on his Norton and we got a chance to
talk with the owner. I will post some pictures on the VinMoto site.

The next events that are possibly on the schedule are Davenport, IA the
weekend of Sept. 5th, Battle of the Brits on Sept. 13th, and the All Clubs
Day in Stockbridge on Sept. 20th.

What is happening out there in MotVinMoto land?

I heard battle of the Brits is moving? Matt did you tell me that at
VMD? Todd has the mightly Royal Enfield Interceptor made it back to
pavement yet? Craig what Ducti bevel are you restoring now? Kevin what
under powered Italian antique have you been riding in the local park?

Darrell I am again making some progress on the Gemini. Tank is getting
a second treatrment of synth-phosphate. Carb is scattered in a pie tin
after a short dunk in the good stuff waiting to be assembled. I am
looking forward to exploring that single plate clutch next.

What did everyone think about the MetroTimes cafe racer article? anyone
know those Yipsi guys?
