講 題：Studying the speech produced by hearing-impaired children:
preliminary results
摘 要：
This talk presents preliminary results of an acoustic analysis of
the speech produced by Chinese-speaking hearing-impaired children.
Previous studies mostly used controlled data, where pseudo-syllables or
isolated syllables were read and recorded for analysis. Our study
collects repeated sentences and stories, where syllables appear in a
continuous, speaking context. In terms of vowel space size, vowel
production of hearing-impaired children is categorized to three levels,
which correspond to impressionistic assessment. Acoustic measure also
includes the percentage of transient occurrence in stops and affricates
produced by the subjects. Impressionistic assessment and acoustic
measures are studied and compared with the abilities of speech
comprehension and performance of the children.
