Hello All,
The intensity of the opposition to extending I-69 needs to develop now! (Below is a recent report on the project's ridiculous impact on 83-year-old Pauline Oxbey (sp?)). I hope that the photos show up.
Insufficient money is in the bank. The money is not there for the full cost, including for ramming the corridor through Patoka National Wildlife Refuge. And yet our current governor would like people to believe that this project is a done and necessary deal, and that he deserves an exemption for environmental regulations that would likely be violated. You would think that the guy who wanted to be our man would be moved by peak oil, loss of diverse species (Indiana Bat in this corridor), the importance of non-human and human habitat, and global warming. But it just ain't so. He says in his campaign ad that he might have moved too fast. What about moving in the wrong direction?
Some of you are hungry for opportunities to act. Others need to get their ideas developed and heard. Hence, I am creating the listserv "I-69 Opposition Clearinghouse" as an opportunity to act and to join the discussion on options to act. Also, news that could prompt actions will be posted on this list. Join ask others to join the list at http://lists.topica.com/lists/NoI-69/ That way you do not miss messages such as I am sending you now. Also, please post to the list and see the messages that are already posted.
One action is to solicit for signatures for the Bonney campaign (www.bonneyforgov.com) in Bloomington, IN. Contact Jeff Stant about details. His e-mail is jeffre-@sbcglobal.net . The last that I checked the canvas would be taking place from April 10-13 (Thu.-Sat) and April 14-18 (Mon.-Fri.). Several of us will be ride sharing from Indianapolis. Also, you may contact me.
Please join the list and invite others to join. This will be an open list for anyone to join.
It will have limited monitoring. If we need a closed list, that change can be made later.

Hello everyone,
We spent a couple hours yesterday talking with the two closest neighbors to the initial I-69 destruction down by Oakland City. They told us three of the four houses that they are taking down are now gone. I will be posting a photo album and story about it on the Alternative soon. In the meantime, the attached photos are of 83-year-old Pauline Oxbey (sp?) and how how much yard INDOT has left her. We were told there will be a fence running where the stake is. It's 20 feet from her freakin' door. They took her yard but refused to buy her home. She's lived there since the 50s. Some folks were digging up her flowers rather than have INDOT plow them. They gave me a couple to bring home.
