Quotes of the month:
"Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently
give me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then shall the scriptures be
fulfilled, that thus it must be?" Matthew 26:53:54.
"In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out, as against
a thief, with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching
in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me. But all this was done, that the
scripture of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him
and fled." Mathew:26:55:56.

ARTICLE OF THE
MONTH:
THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST
THE SCRIPT AND THE SCRIPTURES
By
Odete M. Bigote
It was a beautiful beach day. I spent hours laying on the sand, enjoying the
first warm days of spring in New York City. As the sun began to set, I
realized it was time to go home, and started to walk to the subway.
Suddenly, I felt a soft, heavy hand moving up and down on my back.
Is this a massage or an attack? I asked myself.
I looked back, and discovered an old man standing behind me, shaking the sand
off my dress. He was not speaking in English; he talked in a foreign language
which I realized was Russian. He was very worried that such a "young girl,"
wearing a pretty mini dress would walk around with so much sand on her neck and
dress. He kept talking, and I listened attentively. The fact that we could
not speak the same language made no difference because there is always a
communication going on that transcends language, and is, therefore, beyond words.
I could see love in this man's eyes, and feel the tenderness of his hands.
"Sir, are you free tonight?" I asked in English. I never found out if he
answered me.
He kept talking in Russian, even after he walked away. The sand had been
completely removed. I thanked him several times, but he never uttered a word in
English.
Mel Gibson, surprised everyone when he used Aramaic and Latin instead of
English in his new movie "The Passion of the Christ." The effect of the movie,
however, is not diminished; it is the opposite, it enhances the message that
there is a communication going on that transcends language and is beyond words.
The first time I saw the Passion, I felt an invisible presence all over the
theater, as soon as I walked in. This "presence" kept me glued to my seat, while
at the same time, I felt uplifted, even before the movie started.
What does "a communication that transcends language" mean to all of us? Does
this communication help mankind? Yes, it helps mankind tremendously, this is
why the life of Christ if so important; it shows us that "bodies" are
secondary. For our existence to materialize, "ideas" have to exist first, then, the
body is formed, and finally the language.
Ideas, then, are imprinted or mapped in an original manuscript ; a script
that is beyond form, but is somehow present in everyone's mind.It is like a
closed book; it opens only when we want. Some of this script is encoded, and starts
to take form in what we call "The Scriptures." Only by the end of the 20th
century, we were able to start to decode the Scriptures, and found out that
everyone's life is mapped in there.
The life of Jesus, like all of us, is prophesized and narrated in the
Scriptures. The difference between us and Him, is that Jesus was not afraid to show
the truth about ourselves; life has no beginning and no end, but it takes many
forms. We come to earth for a purpose which is imprinted in the original
manuscript, all we've to do is to choose to folllow what is written. Jesus did that
beautifully; He never listened to the voice of evil that tempted him, He
listened to the voice of love instead. Jesus went to the cross willingly, in spite
of the fact that He knew what He was going to go through. He had the power to
stop it, but He choose not to.
"Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently
give me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then shall the scriptures be
fulfilled, that thus it must be?" Matthew 26:53:54.
Life is full of choices. We are always choosing to love or not to love.
Even the multitudes that came to arrest Jesus, and even the disciples,
followed the script, although they may not have been aware of the communication
that transcends language.
"In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out, as against
a thief, with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching
in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me. But all this was done, that the
scripture of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him
and fled." Mathew:26:55:56.
If we pay attention to the two quotes from the Bible that I mention above, we
begin to understand that everyone in that scene had a role to play: the role
of good and bad. This is happening continuously, as long as we are on earth.
We are all so entangled as we play our roles in the scenes of the theater of
life, that we do not even understand what is going on and why. Everyone we
encounter is carefully chosen to participate in the script of our lives; the old
man at the beach was one of them. That is the reason why we need films like the
Passion of the Christ, to help us remember that life is eternally beautiful,
and hopefully unite us in a web of kindness, and in the remembrance of love.
