 Is anything happening here?
I am quietly slogging away at something. I feel I am on the home
straight, but it is a big project. Peu is also available, see below.
Can someone bring us up to date on the state of accomplishment of all
the open source Euphorias?
I have just reached the point where it (Positive) will self-host and
run a few GUI apps, but it is a compiler/binder at the moment not an
interpreter so I need to complete that bit before release, not least
because core performance is looking quite reasonable, but the current
bind (and setup) overhead will put too many people off straightaway.
It doesn't have a trace/debugger, it does not support type checking
(either builtin or user defined), etc, actually the list is long...
Can any of them run the same programs that RDS Euphoria runs?
In short the answer is no, but Positive will be 99%+ compatible.
As an example, Positive will not support [implicit] sequence ops, so I
won't support eg win32lib as such, instead I will ship a modified and
renamed version of Arwen to start with, and a modified version of
Edita, along with a list of the needed source changes (for reference),
which is currently running at around 35 or so, all relatively minor.
[I suppose I shall be forced to revise my 99% claim if I need more
than 500 changes]. The new versions will run on both RDS Eu and
Positive. A modified and dual-platform version of win32lib and similar
ought not to take too long to arrive. The first release of Positive
will also be windows-only.
Where can I have a look at it?
For Positive, nowhere yet, it will be at least a few weeks before I
upload anything, possibly/probably longer. Obviously I'll post a
message to openEu when I do.
If your dutch[?] is up to scratch, you can find peu here:
http://dotpups.de/menno/ (6th entry on the left). I see there is an
update on 12/04/06, so it is definitely still alive.
I don't think programs based on RDS Euphoria can qualify for the free
software directory.
http://directory.fsf.org/
Dunno. Elegant got in there (needs elegant binary to compile itself)
so maybe one day Positive will qualify on a similar basis (the release
version will also be self-hosted). A Linux port is a way off though.

Regards,
Pete
PS I could still use a Poke4/Peek4s/Peek4u test program; most things I
have tried (on Positive) work fine but I am still convinced there is
something amiss.
