Hello all,
There will be a fringe meeting at the Labour Party Conference on Monday
27 Sep (Boardroom, Old Ship Hotel, 12:30 - 2pm) to discuss "patient
choice" and how funding for successful but relatively costly treatments
(e.g. new cochlear implants) is organised. Some people feel at the
moment that it's a postcode lottery ie in some areas it may be
straightforward to get funding for an implant, but in others very
difficult.
Others (e.g. on this circle) may feel that AV therapy is integral to
cochlear implant rehabilitation but that this is also subject to a
postcode lottery since some LEAs buy it & others don't. (Plus there's
the old saga of LEAs saying AV is healthcare, NHS / health insurers
saying it's education - so neither agency buys it!)
Everyone is welcome to come. The Sunday Times may run a story about the
meeting this Sunday.
For more information about the meeting, please contact Rory Carroll of
the Association of British Health Care Industries 020 7787 3067.
