Road Race Calendar Heats Up!

These may be the dog days of summer and the PA BAR is heating up as well. T=
his past Sunday riders earned BAR points, which have been scored, at the 18=
th Annual Tour de Christiana Criterium. This weekend features the 3rd Annua=
l Tour de Millersburg Stage Race for senior men/women riders along with 45+=
and the DeSales Race Weekend which has its focus on masters men and women.=
It=E2=80=99s a rare occurrence with multiple PA BAR races on the same day =
but there=E2=80=99s plenty of opportunity to show your stuff. The junior me=
n and women will be on display Sunday as the 2009 PA State Championship eve=
nts return with the Oley Valley Junior Road Race. This event is sure to dra=
w the best juniors in the tri state area as the event is not only a LAJORS =
race but also the NJ State Junior Road Race. For our brethren in WPA the Wi=
ne Country Classic Stage Race is on tap Saturday and Sunday. After a week o=
ff the Masters & Rookies will battle it out on the track at the VPCC. Certa=
inly
a diverse weekend that should offer something for all ages.

PA Junior State Criterium Is On!

The PCA board wants to extend their thanks and gratitude to Vortex Cycling =
who stepped up to promote the Alaric Gayfer Junior State Criterium Champion=
ship on Saturday August 29th. The club had planned to hold the Lehigh Valle=
y Winery Criterium but when asked to consider holding a junior state event =
there was no hesitation. Bob Reppert and all the folks at Vortex put togeth=
er a race schedule that offers events for all junior age groups and M3-4, M=
5, and W3-4. Thanks!

What=E2=80=99s=E2=80=99 Happening NE PA?

Has anyone noticed the increase in races in NE PA, specifically the Scranto=
n/Wilkes Barre area? The driving force behind the surge in racing is NEPA =
Cycling (http://nepacycling.com) that is run by former pro Phil Cable. Phil=
is currently promoting Pride Mobility Training Series on Thursday nights t=
hat alternates every week with a TT and CR. If that was not enough Phil is =
putting on two criteriums (Nanticoke and Wilkes-Barre Twilight) over the ne=
xt few weeks that are sure to draw local riders from Upstate Velo, Hot Tama=
les, Susquehanna Valley Velo, and SBRT among others plus riders from EPA, N=
Y, and NJ. To top it off the Wilkes-Barre Twilight race is a PA BAR event w=
ith points available in the M1-2-3 race. Phil is also grass roots focused o=
ffering development races for unlicensed young men and women that will hope=
fully enjoy their introduction to the sport we all love and perhaps will be=
taking out a USAC license and continue to develop their racing
careers. Thanks Phil for all that you are doing to support and grow racing=
in PA! =20

PCA Awards Banquet

I was hoping to have a venue announcement this week for the PCA Awards Banq=
uet but my day job got in the way and will have to defer that until next we=

Final Words=20

Speaking of Greentree one of our own went down last week and had surgery ye=
sterday. Darco get well soon and enjoy the sojourn to Belgium. I know you =
wanted to race but now there=E2=80=99s more time for beer and frites! Also =
a shout out to Dan Wilson (Alliance Environmental) who is all over the news=
due to being hit with a blow dart while heading out for a ride. Dan we ar=
e glad you=E2=80=99re okay and hope they catch the culprits soon.

Be safe this weekend and race hard!
