Plus ... read how you (and your friends, family and neighbors) can
help lobby these two school funding bills:
Senate Bill 825 - Aging Schools Program - Grants
SB 825 would redirect 15% of the annual funds available for school
construction and renovation into the Aging Schools Program. The
Program funds projects to protect school buildings from
deterioration, improve the safety of students and staff, and enhance
the delivery of educational programs.
House Bill 565 - Deficiencies in Schools Correction Fund
HB565 would require the governor to fund a new state program, the
Deficiencies in Schools Correction Fund at $250 million a year for 5
years. The money would be to primarily fix those things related to
health and safety deficiencies like fire safety, water, communication
etc. and deficiencies in the building that most impact student
achievement - like bad acoustics and lighting. The program is modeled
on a successful program in Arizona, which used over $1 billion to
correct school deficiencies in a short period of time.

Thanks to student volunteer Daniel Knorr, a student at Johns Hopkins
University, for helping with the news search. AND CONGRATULATIONS TO
HIM!:

for the fall 2005 semester at The Johns Hopkins University. Students

named to the list. Knorr is the son of Leonard Knorr and attended
Grace Brethren Christian School in Clinton. Knorr is majoring in arts
& sciences and is expected to graduate in May 2009."
