Fwd: Christmas Tree Recycling Program  Joyce Dowling
 Dec 16, 2008 09:38 PST
I highlighted the most important part for south county residents in
the message from the county below. BTW, If you don't have a tree yet,
let me suggest supporting a farmer, and one in particular: Tanner's
Enchanted Forest where you can cut your own tree (they have saws) or
they'll cut one for you - they also have spiced tea & cookies -
prices start at $25 - they're open Sat. & Sun. 7 AM to 5 PM or by
appointment if you're lucky to reach them during the week:

Prince George's County Offers Christmas Tree Recycling Program

LARGO, MD - The Prince George's County Department of Environmental
Resources' (DER) Waste Management Group (WMG) will provide free
Christmas tree collection and drop-off services for all County
citizens and residents for recycling of their live Christmas trees.

To participate in this program, residents with yard waste collection
service should place their undecorated Christmas trees at curbside
before 6:30 a.m. on their regularly scheduled collection day from
December 26, 2008 through January 15, 2009. Residents may also
bring their undecorated trees, at no charge, to the Prince George's
County Yard Waste Recycling Facility at Western Branch or to the
Brown Station Road Public Convenience Center through January 31,
2009.

The Yard Waste Recycling Facility, located at 6601 Southeast Crain
Highway in Upper Marlboro will accept one Christmas tree per
vehicle, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The
Brown Station Road Public Convenience Center, located at 3501 Brown
Station Road in Upper Marlboro, will accept Christmas trees (with no
limitations) Monday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
"This is an eco-friendly way to dispose of your Christmas trees,"
says Charles W. Wilson, DER director. "Every tree that is collected
will be shredded and cured into mulch for our annual Mulch Giveaway
event that is held in the spring." Last year, DER's Waste
Management Group (WMG) collected over 420 tons of Christmas trees
for recycling.

For more information on Christmas tree recycling, call WMG's
Recycling Team at (301) 883-5045. For information on your yard
waste collection day, call WMG's Collection Team at (301) 952-7630.
