Subject: [NCHPolicyBoard] House passes Presidential Records Bill
Revoking Bush Executive Order 13233
I have some great news for everyone. The House of Representatives today
passed the Presidential Records Reform bill revoking the Bush Executive
Order 13233 restricting access to presidential records by a vote of
359-58.
Symbolically this was the first bill passed by the new House of
Representatives as an expression of a new commitment to transparency. I
have spoke with the folks in the Senate and hopefully the bill will be
waiting on President-elect Obama's desk on January 20. The
President-elect
has already committed himself to revoking the Executive Order himself if
need be.
This has been a long 7+ year fight for historians and archivists and
hopefully it will be over soon. Thank you for all your support over
these
many years in this effort.
Here's the story I wrote for the NCH website with all the details.
