Dear Stephane,

you wrote (12 Apr 2002):

What is the topic of your thesis?

I do not understand why some people prefer using all votes
in favor of one of the pairwise representative instead of margins.
Mr. Ossipoff pretends it is better to counter the lesser-of-2-evils
problem. Could someone explain? I think it is related to truncated
preferential ballot because if all votes provide a full list,
margins and approval give the same results. This seems a false
problem to me.

To understand Mike Ossipoff, you have to know that in his opinion,
when a majority of the voters strictly prefers candidate A to
candidate B, then this means that candidate B is "rejected" by
a majority of the voters. When you browse through the 1996 and
the 1997 archives of the EM mailing list, then you will find many
instances where Mike talkes about "majority-rejected" candidates.
