Kids Class for 09
Last winter we spent many a cold night discussing changes for the 2009 season. Each time we sat down the same subject came up. "How can we help more kids?" In response, we committed ourselves to focus more on the kid’s program and set a goal of doubling the number of kids we reach out to in 2009.
The kids program instructors and helpers have the most demanding and rewarding volunteer position in the shop. While it's not easy giving up a few Saturday mornings in a row, it is well worth it. But we can use your help to achieve our goal, send us an email if you can give a hand or know someone who can:

Fall Bicycle Sale
Fall Bike Sale coming soon – set your calendar for Saturday, September 19th! 10am
Earlier this year, we made the decision to suspend weekly bicycle sales in order to spend more time on our community programs.
However, to financially support the shop we scheduled two large sidewalk sales in 2009. The April sale was a huge success where we sold out in the first hour. We are working hard to triple the number of bikes for the next sale coming in September. Please spread the word, come by if you are thinking of buying a bike, or stop in on a Tuesday Wednesday or Thursday to help get bikes ready for the sale.
Annual Crazy Fund Raising Bike Ride
Last year we sent our finest and fittest off to claim glory for BicycleWORKS by riding the Katy Trial as far as they could go without sleeping. They survived thunder storms and animal attacks in order to make the most of your generous donation. You can read about this previous adventure here...
It is that time of the year again where we sacrifice a few volunteers for the good of the whole organization. We ask for your help to make their sacrifice honorable (instead of just stupid). We will soon send out a special news flash to solicit your support, stay tuned...
Thank you all for your support.
Wednesday Wednesday Wednesday
Anyone who has visited the shop during our weeknight hours can see the overwhelming demand for the shop to be open. So, to give new volunteers a space that is calmer and quieter we will be opening Wednesday nights 7- 9 pm for volunteers only. We have bikes piled to the ceiling waiting for a few adjustments and seasoned volunteers ready to teach you how to help.
We hope this will allow you a chance to stop by and lend a hand.
Shipping Bikes
Bicycle WORKS has partnered with Working Bikes. They collect bikes to send to developing nations for basic transportation as well creating jobs.
The countries to which Working Bikes ships, a bicycle can often mean the difference between work and unemployment. The bicycle is the primary means of vehicular transportation for the majority of the population and is used both for personal transportation and for carrying cargo.
In the last year Bicycle WORKS has collected almost seven hundread mountain bicycles for this project.
