Happy and Healthy in Hong Kong  Seth Familian
 Apr 30, 2002 21:44 PDT
Hello again!

Well, I'm happy to report that since I last wote things are going much,
much better, and I was released from the hospital after having to spend
only two nights there. I won't bore you with the details of my
treatment (since they really aren't that exciting, especially in
comparison to the events that led up to my arrival to the hospital), but
do know that I received the proper antibiotics, my arm is doing much
better, and I'm feeling absolutely healthy and happy.

The unfortunate result of all of this is that I do need to cut my trip
short and return home to Los Angeles within the next few days. I might
be out of the hospital but I still have an open wound that needs some
time to heal, and I just don't think going back to less developed parts
of the world is the wisest thing for me to do right now. Though this
marks the end of my adventures in Southeast Asia and the probable end of
my year of travel as well, I don't at all view it as a sad or
unfortunate conclusion, but rather an interesting and somewhat surreal
one that helped finish off all of my travels with a truely novel twist.
I've had some incredible experiences this past year, and I see my most
recent medical adventure as yet another one of those
experiences--something that provides intrigue and excitement, something
to learn from, and something that will certainly end up in an already
massive catalogue of travel tales. (And what's more, I still have the
last bit of my website and most likely a book on the way, so I
definitely have things to keep me busy once I return home!)

I won't bring my whole travel narrative to a close here, as I still am
in Hong Kong and have a few days of adventure left (and besides, how on
earth could THIS be my last e-mail to all of you?!?!). Instead, I hope
to write to you all one or two more times to let you know about what I
thought about Southeast Asia as a whole and my Hong Kong experience in
particluar (I've got to at least tell you all about Hong Kong, for where
else could I write an e-mail like this from a free internet kiosk smack
dab in the middle of a huge shopping mall buzzing with people??).

But before I sign off this time and head back into the metropolitan
buzz, I'd like to thank each and every one of you who took the time over
the past few days to either e-mail me or give me a call to wish me well
and see how I was doing. I promise to write back to all of you
individually (though it might take some time--so be patient!) but please
know that your words and thoughts meant so much to me, and certainly
kept me company in an otherwise lonely hospital room.

Alrighty! Time to end this travel bonanza with a bang and not a wounded
whimper, so until I next write (probably from Los Angeles) thank you
once again for all your thoughts and concerns, and all the best from
over here!

Hugs and love from Hong Kong,
Seth
