speak in Long Beach on Thursday November 19th at 7:00 pm. “Pedaling
Revolution,” written by Mapes, describes how Seattle, Portland and other
cities have brilliantly transformed into vibrant, healthy, safe and attractive
urban cities where bikes are used in everyday lives. He discusses his
personal experiences as a middle-aged professional who learned how to be an
urban cyclist and his newfound mastery of his hometown as a free range, healthier
adult. Mapes goes further by looking into the future and seeing cities such as
New York and Long Beach transform their car dominated public into that
wonderfully expressive concept, “livable communities. A place where
cycling and walking is designed into the streetscape as pleasant and safe
transportation options.
