URGENT -MORE ON PARADE PROTEST

Headquarters
Florida Division
Sons of Confederate Veterans

PLEASE READ, PRINT, AND PASS ALONG TO EVERYONE YOU CAN!!!!!

Ladies & Gentlemen,

Your emails and phone calls to the sponsors are having a real impact. The
sponsors are exerting pressure on the folks at Springtime Tallahassee. Now
we shall see if the sponsors' influence can trump the influence of whoever
told Springtime to boot us from the lineup.

In the meantime, I need to make you aware of a few items:

1. US Cellular had NOTHING to do with us being kicked out. They didn't
even have a line-up list. Ditto goes for the other sponsors. What we need
to address in our calls and letters to the sponsors is to ask them to
pressure Springtime to let us march.   It is true that our protest march
will target the sponsors, as I still hold them ultimately responsible for
what Springtime Tallahassee does, but this was NOT their idea.

2. When you all write to the Sponsors, Springtime, or whomever, PLEASE USE
YOUR HEADS. Some issues have come up, that show we need to do some
self-policing:

    a. The SCV IS NOT a "Southern Christian Organization". We have Jews,
and a whole assortment of other faiths in our membership. It may be that
the group that wanted to march is 99% Christian, (I have no idea) but
please do not indicate that the whole SCV is a Christian group...the SCV is
non-sectarian. Our charter has nothing to do with religion...Religion is
not an issue here, our Confederate-centric nature is the issue...our
Heritage is what is being called into question.

    b. If you are writing an email or making a phone call, and you MAKE
THREATS of violence against anyone I WILL PERSONALLY ASSIST THE
RECIPIENT
OF YOUR EMAIL OR PHONE CALL IN PROSECUTING YOU! U.S. Cellular
informed me
this morning that they have already turned two taped phone messages (how
stupid could a caller be?) over to the Sherriff's Department. This type of
behavior DOES NOT REPRESENT THE SCV. While I can not personally control
the conduct of the recipients of this email broadcast, I would hope that
any Southernor who receives this letter will have common sense enough NOT
to make threats against anyone. To do so will only hurt our cause, and
make the SCV, UDC, League of the South, HPA, etc. look like idiots.

I expect all of you to act like proper Southern Ladies and Gentlemen.
Please ask yourself if what you are writing and what you are doing would
pass muster before your Confederate Ancestors.

This morning I had a nice conversation with the Tallahassee Police
Intelligence Unit. I have assured them that we are going to behave
ourselves, and act like good citizens. They had heard stories to the
contrary. After an hour on the phone, I think I have them convinced we are
upstanding folks. Please don't prove me wrong.

Thank you all for your support,

John W. Adams
Florida Division Commander

I FEEL REALLY BAD

Dear Chuck and List,
I FEEL really bad that I did not get to see the FOX news channel Episode # 5=
=20
on
"Reparations for Slavery" on the "Hannity and Colmes" program. So If someone=
=20
out
there saw it, could you please tell me and the list what was said?
I also feel compelled to tell you a little story of why I am so FIERCELY=20
interested in
all the happenings of today's world.
In 1996, my wonderful Daddy passed away. I had always been interested in=20
Family
History and things as such. I had in the past asked him many questions about=
=20
the
Family and knowing we were so Southern it became a fascination to me. Howeve=
r
during his last years he was not able to answer many of my questions at that=
=20
time
as he was confined to a Veteran's Hospital. Daddy proudly served in World Wa=
r=20
2
and was awarded 2 Bronze Stars(I found out after his death on his Military=20
papers)
in the Battle of Anzio, France(hope spelling right) He had a wealth of=20
papers, photos
and objects tucked away in a closet that my Mother willingly gave to me,=20
after his
death. Then and there I began a Genealogy search that has lasted up and unti=
l=20
and
including today. I found 2 in mint condition pictures of two brothers from=20
the Civil War,
tucked in the pages of a book. They were identified as 2 DUNN brothers. John
Lewis Dunn's picture is of him in his Confederate Army Uniform, Eli Edward=20
Dunn is
in the dress of the day. The quest was on. John Lewis Dunn (1842-1863) and=20
Eli Edward
Dunn (1837-1864) were the brothers. They both served in CO. A   9th Regiment=
=20
Mounted
Infantry, Confederate States Army. They fought in Shiloh, Vicksburg, Baton=20
Rouge,
Hartsville, Mufreesboro, Jackson, Jonesboro, and Chickamauga. John Lewis Dun=
n=20
was
killed in the Battle of Chickamauga in 1863. He was awarded the MEDAL OF HON=
OR
and placed on the HONOR ROLL. Eli Edward Dunn was killed in 1864 in Jonesbor=
o.
John Lewis 2nd Corporal and Eli Edward was
a 1st Corporal of the Company.. These facts came from the National Archive=20
papers that I
sent for.
Having all this information did not tell me where they were buried and it=20
haunted me
that they probably did not have markers for their graves. I looked high and=20
low, and
almost everywhere I could think of. I spent many all nighter's on the web=20
looking and
looking for any and all information that I might find. My thoughts were they=
=20
must have
been buried close to where they fell, as was I found out sometimes was the=20
case.
This Genealogy search took me directly into the Civil War and all the ins an=
d=20
outs.
Now I drink up any and all the facts that I can on the Civil War. I found a=20
site on the
web for the "Orphan Brigade" as this is the unit they were in. I found a=20
wonderful
caring, person, Historian, Geoff Walden of that Brigade that was more than=20
willing
to help me in any way possible. He located the graves of both brothers.=20
However where
they are buried, no markers can be placed there. In my Genealogy search
I found the DUNN family Cemetery located in Logan County, Kentucky. I have h=
ad
their Markers made, by the government and will be taking them "Home" to the
soil of their birth to be placed in the DUNN Cemetery with their parents and=
=20
other
family members. Will do this during Summer 2001. My heart is full of love an=
d=20
joy
that they will finally after all these years, have the markers they deserve!
Their brother, my Great-grandfather, Bolling James Dunn, a lawyer, c/o Found=
ed
Ouachita Baptist University, Arkadelphia, Arkansas and was an Orginal Founde=
r
of University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Arkansas, where he remained until h=
is
retirement and death. This side of the DUNN family is buried in Fayetteville=
,=20
all
4 grandchildren were graduates of University of Arkansas, Fayetteville,=20
Arkansas.
My Daddy was the youngest grandson.
The parent DUNN'S and brothers were all orginaly from Russelleville, Logan=20
County
Kentucky. Their father, Gray B. Dunn was a Baptist minister and first=20
Postmaster
of Homer, Kentucky. The DUNN'S date back to North Carolina and England in th=
e
1600's.=20
Bolling James Dunn's wife's family were very prominent from Barren County,=20
Kentucky.
The Barton's and Edmund's date to the early 1800's census in Barren
County, Kentucky. Caroline Winston Barton (Dunn's) Grandfather, Captain=20
William
Edmunds was a Captain in the American Revolution. He was a plantation owner,=
=20
slave
holder, banker and merchant and was Justice of the Peace of Barren County=20
Kentucky for
over 25 years. Between several families they owned thousands of acres and=20
these facts are
all documented thru Historical Socities that were written and published.
My Grandmother, Mattie Choate Dunn was born in Linden, Texas, her Father,=20
Richard
W.Choate was the Sheriff in Cass County, Texas in 1882 and seved 2 terms. My
Grandmother was a life long supporter and member of the UDC. My brother,=20
several
years before his death served as a State President of the Children of the=20
Confederacy. All
of the other DUNN line is now gone. Except me and my elder
Mother.
Less I tell you more? I urge all of you, if you don't know your family=20
history, do make
an effort to try to find your roots and by all means if you have living=20
relatives, ask them
questions and write it down. Its so much easier than trying to put the piece=
s
of the puzzel together at some later date. There are all kinds of sources of=
=20
Genealogy
information on the net and many people that would love to know and
help you.
These above are my reasons for wanting to keep my wonderful Southern Heritag=
e
alive and well. I am sickened and very much disturbed by those that are=20
trying to
tear down a lifetime of my memories and my heritage. My best to all of you=20
and I
REMAIN faithful and ready to HELP in any way I can!
Respectfully and Confederately yours,

Marilyn Dunn Carothers

P. S. I married a wonderful Southern Texan, who is also very disturbed about=
=20
the
         events of today's world, too!

I just got back from a reenactment at Endview Plantation in Newport News.
While there, I got a registration packet for the Atlanta Campaign (November=

and that all flags must be pre-approved. There is no way that it is

of Confederate/civilian reenactors into their parade, set for March 31st.
in Tallahassee.
Last Thursday, we were told we were not welcome in the parade, and that it
was a mistake to have included us in the first place, because we are too
controversial, and unacceptable for the parade.

NW COMMENTS: Well, if any of you "moderates" out there still feel that
McConnell, Ravenel, Quinn, WIlkins et al. do not deserve to be indicted as
TRAITORS, THIEVES AND guilty of CRIMINAL MISCHIEF, please tell me how you
feel about the "flag issue" they doggedly created out of thin air resulting
in ALL CONFEDERATE ACTIVITY being banned from "CIVIL WAR" EVENTS in

states because it's "TOO CONTROVERSIAL!"=20
Do you not see how liberals operate? They stir up controversy over
something and get it outlawed on that basis -- all the while collecting
peacemaker awards. Shame, shame SHAME on their heads! Yes, they are
liberals -- every one of them. I think we can safely assume that beneath
their slick exterior they are socialistic, anti-white, anti-black,
anti-Southern, anti-American, pro-death, pro-queer SPOILED BRATS. /\/.\/\/.
