SUMO #91st, 5th September, 2004. The Hashimoto "origin of hash" trail.
Start/finish: JR Hashimoto station; Hare: HeAdSHot; Beer Meistress:
Chucky.

I hate to boast but this was a great trail despite the scare the day
before when Samurai course headed for Hashimoto yet pinched just one of
my corners. Exactly one sixth of a full-marathon the plan was to give
shade all the way as I scouted under a blazing sun. At it transpired
(perspired?), it was a cloudy day so consideration was not needed. The
route led from the coin-lockers beside the JR Yokohama-sen for the first
check that was too easy, just take the underpass and follow the
Odakyu-sen north towards Tamasakai. The second check break was an almost
hidden serendipitous set of single-width stairs leading down to another
check – well why not? I was feeling playful. On up to the parks
either side of the station with yet another checkpoint to delay the fit
FRBs but again easy to bust as On2 --> was barely 50 m up the next hill
leading to a landscaped running course and a vista of almost continuous
shiggy for miles. We only pleasured ourselves with a taster leading on
down past the colourful water-tower to glide back to the start with only
a few more CB hurdles to end in under an hour.   Then the planning
became a bit unglued as the cops were patrolling next to the shelter so
we decided to shift to a park shown on the map. The problem: it was a
real park, as in "park your car". So we hijacked a couple of obaa-sans
to guide us to their local nature garden where the circle up (MCed by
RAPUNZEL and beveraged by CHUCKY with the best hooch and snacks that
Keio supaa had to offer) played itself out like this:-

Visitors/virgins: none - only the jaded this day.
Welcome backs: Just-Thomas who has been "slammed-up doin' time"
stateside for a couple of months. We serenaded him and made mental note
to keep our backs to the wall.
Apologies: CAMEL-TOE couldn't make it as she was trying to shrink her
running pants for next week so we nominated look-alike KHUMING-ROUGE to
drain a cup.
There were no 5, 10, 20, 30, 50 nor 100 timers, but we did have
double-digiters HeAdSHot (55) and CHUCK-CHUNDA (69 and when one 69er
drinks...then 69% had to drink too to the tune of "Sally in the Alley").
The hare downed one for the most besterest trail and CHUCKY hailed
(howled?) with the "Hare Song"; but there was a hare-snaring by
TEXAS-T-BAG who was so quick that he had already left to avoid the dope
test and we had to designate another look-alike, HULA-GIRL, for the
medal.
After this it was on for young and old with open-nominations and
infractions galore.
All I can remember was a couple of phone-ins by piker TxTB for something
or other. Then RAPUNZEL called out MICROSOFT for being a stealthy
shortcutter, seconded by KHUMING-ROUGE, and his modest response: he just
runs around and sometimes the hares just happen to bump into him.
Roiiight.
On-after party at a Shoya restaurant with a pet eel (no you cannot
have it sashimied) captained by KHUMING-ROUGE and HULA-GIRL polished off
another near perfect bargain hashing day, till next time....
Here's the tentative schedule:

Sunday 12th Sept day-off after huge Samurai Ho-Chi-Minh trail –
chance to stay home making whoopee in the morning and scouting trail in
the arvo for your next hare with the chance to show off your
neighbor-hood and to sample local izakaya for a good deal*.
18-20th Sept Izu-Yumigahama joint SUMO/Rising-Moon late Summer-of-Love
weekender (see website for details).
[26th Sept Rising-Moon at Zushi from 15:00 hrs, hared by mysterious
MANGA-NEF].
3rd Oct Mogusaen on Keio-sen hared by our very own man-about-town
KHUMING-ROUGE, regular 2 pm SUMO 'stile' start.
[9-10th Oct is Samurai overnighter at Nebukawa, for those interested].
17th and/or 24th Oct are available and PRINCESS-BUBBLES and/or RAPUNZEL
(if he is not eating escargots) have stepped up to hare; in Nov.
CHUCK-CHUNDA'll lay one in lovely Yokohama.
29th–31st Oct is Meekong Interhash but...

*Sign-up! sign-up! – Are you are tired of mediocre trails and
average on-afters? Then be your own critic and lay a trail. It's fun!
It's cheap (no hash fees!). You can do just about what ever you like,
and your fellow hashers will see you in a whole (hole?) new light
(romance often ensues...).     Catch you then, then.
