SUMO ###99.1 30th Jan, 2005. From Uenohara in sunny Yamanashi-ken.
Hare: SHRUB. The Inaugral "Inaka" bash was a huge success due to the
excellent trail scouting by the intrepid hare (but his backtracking gave
us some mountain-rope work in the middle section). The weather was
perfect and the slight dusting of snow allowed those less than fully
grown-up individuals - yes, that means STIFFY and SHUCK-OFF, to throw
snowballs at my head.
Starting near the station, we left our bags on the Onsen Bus (this
allowing irreconcilable short-cutters - e.g. SNOW-WHITE and TEXAS-T-BAG,
to "guess" the end point). After crossing over a river bridge that was
home to several large washi eagles eyeing us for "stragglers", we headed
to the hills and through a few tunnels. One was spooky as it was unlit
and the exit sloped down appearing as a small mousehole in the distance
- described by HULA and CHUCKY like running in a dream. All too soon
the finish came in sight across another high bridge with a Circle-up
thus...
First timers: F***ING-ENGINEER and ERECTION-AID were Samurai
first-timers; there was a guy from Germany/Korea/US who sung a lot and
was obviously not into the whole brevity thing; and then we had the
magnificent Wendy "The Mayor (Mare?) of Uenohara". CHUCKY had most r*ns
at about 69+8 and BALDING and JOY-STICK the next least (5 and 3).
Naming options were available for 6-timers GEKKO (retained) and
BANANA-GEORGI who now, for divers reasons, is COCK-SOCK. There were
many messy nominations and violations and a DFL in the form of
NUKE-OF-EARL who we quickly deprived of his hashcash before the strain
of running with a backpack killed him. Then it was on into the onsen
for Show-and-Tell. (No STIFFY, you must go into the Mens' changing
room).
Special thanks for this great day (see pix
http://www.ne.jp/asahi/mizu-o-mukeru/yonde/sumo/UenoharaPics.htm) to:
SHRUB, for taking two days off to scout this excellent adventure.
Wendy-The-Mayor for suggesting the onsen, showing us her party tricks
and her "local". TEXAS-T-BAG brought an esky of Becks, Heineken and
snacks all the way. PRINCESS-BUBBLES and SAITAMA-MAMA brought more beer
and snacks. CHUCKY brewed her best yet, on draft too. SNOW-WHITE ran
the 2nd circle when we were 'slightly' more drunk and rowdy, and STIFFY
plied us all with beer on the train home so we annoyed other passengers.
And the question is: Who fell asleep on the train and ended up at the
terminus (apart from KHUMING-ROUGUE who always does this)? Answers next
time...
Next weeks' meet: Sunday 6th Jan. Kamata on Keihintohoku-sen. Hares: CC
and CS. CU.
