Abstract: Working with a range of partners in NYC and the Mid-Hudson
region, Extension staff in NYC are applying the principles of sustainable
development to develop and build a biofuel industry to the benefit of NY
residents, businesses and the larger environment. The fuel under
discussion is biodiesel, introduced and marketed for both fleet vehicles
and multi-family building use. Along with the clear economic and national
security benefits of supplanting imported oil stocks with domestically
produced fuel inputs, widespread adoption of B5 to B20 produces measurable
environmental benefits. The presentation will highlight current NYC
practice and experience and identify opportunities and constraints for
students entering and working in the field.
This presentation is part of the BEE 687 Seminar: The Science and
Engineering Challenges to the Development of Sustainable Biobased
Industries
