Hi all,
Thanks to alert TABI members Scott and Jennifer, the below message
encourages state workers to sign a petition to the governor, to protest the
balancing of the state budget with state worker salaries. It is useful in
my opinion, whether you're effected by the cut or not, to sign this petition
because even if you aren't effected by the cuts, you are effected by the
lack of an inflation adjustment for 3 years now. this alone is estimated to
equal an 8% pay cut.

Cutting state workers' pay is unacceptable. Law enforcement, hurricane
preparedness, child protection, the education of our children, food safety,
conservation of our natural resources, consumer advocacy, and other areas,
are just a few of the many ways that state employees protect our quality of
life. It is unjust and unfair to send our employees the message that the
work they do is unappreciated and unimportant.
Florida's state employees are already one of the lowest paid and leanest
state workforces in the nation. Even with that, for the past three years our
state workers have had no increase in salary.

state workers.

I voted against the budget in part because it included a cut to state
workers' pay. I spoke out in debate in the House Chamber, at rallies, and in
the media about the unjust and unwise cut to state employee pay. I am asking
you to join me in standing up against this insult to the value and
importance of our public servants.
Additionally, we must remember that for every $1 billon dollars the state
cuts, an estimated $1.5 billion in economic activity is lost. Every dollar
cut to a state employee means they have less money to spend in the small
businesses on our Main Streets. Fewer spaghetti dinners at the mom and pop
restaurant down the road, fewer haircuts, fewer pots of flowers at the local
nursery will be purchased. Home purchases and car purchases won't be made.
It is shortsighted to cut public employees' salaries. We must remember and
recognize that public employees are the backbone of this state and show them
the appreciation they deserve!
Click here to tell Gov. Crist that cutting state workers' pay in
unacceptable.
