FRAGMENT FROM ASHLEY'S EYES
The young woman with sidelong glances
among red and purple flowers
with frequent smiles in the tangled shadow
of my jealous garden
with white, shining skin
beneath a head-dress of amber and onyx
who bends toward the cool, blue pool
where small schools of fish flash like diamonds
with full hips and haunches like a waxing moon
soft and yielding to the sky bull (who snorts
and stamps his feet at her slenderness)
Oh, she cups the cool water
Brings it to her full, red lips
As two birds flutter near to her
Excited at her nudity.
Her body is a paradise:
Toned, tight, with freckles
Upon shoulders and belly.
Intensely curious plants and flowers
Nod and bend their necks toward her.
The pomegranate has stained her fingers.
The white light of stars on her face,
Framed with red, sidefalling hair
Upon smoothest, milk skin...
Oh, she is as lithe as the young fox.
In twilight her eyes are nimble fawns.
Her full breasts are a swell of
Jasmine scented and distant cloud...
