On September 8 the Prime Minister released details of a dozen new
changes to Australia's 'anti-terrorism' laws. On September 27 the State
Premiers and Territory Chief Ministers agreed to go along with the Prime
Minister's proposal.
A draft of the proposed new 'Anti-terrorism Bill' has now been posted to
the ACT Chief Minister's Website, and this has been analysed by various
academics and human rights experts.
Ther Civil Rights Network website, which can be found at :
www.civilrightsnetwork.org
has now been updated to reflect these changes. On the Civil Rights
Network website, you can download a pro-forma letter to send to Senate
Legal and Constitutional Committee. The Government is trying to stop the
Senate debating its new 'anti-terrorism' laws by rushing the bill
through. Stand up for civil liberties in Australia, and make sure your
voice is heard.
You can also find links to the ACT Chief Minister's website where you
can view a draft of the bill, and view various articles and reports,
including the most "Laws for Insecurity" report prepared by the Civil
Rights Network and other organisations.
If you are concerned about the proposed expansion of counter-terrorism
laws, this website is one of the best places to find up to date and
clear information about the proposed laws, rather than relying on what
the federal government wants you to see and read in the mainstream
media.
