LIBERTY VS. SECURITY: A NECESSARY TRADE-OFF?
Monash University in partnership with Victoria Police are conducting a
forum examining the legislative and policy environment relevant to
counter-terrorist policing
Wednesday 19 April 10 am to 4pm
Monash Law Chambers, 472 Bourke Street Melbourne
While there is broad consensus regarding the significance of the threat
of terrorism, debates surrounding the most effective means of countering
this global phenomenon are amongst the most contentious in contemporary
society. The forum aims to test a number of arguments and assertions
involved in bringing together practitioners, academics and community
representatives to debate the issues.
Speakers include representatives from State Department of Premier and
Cabinet, Victoria Police, the federal Attorney-General’s Department,
Monash and Melbourne University, Federation of Community Legal Centres
as well as the Islamic Council of Victoria.
Places are limited so please RSVP by Friday April 14 to Gareth Shaw,
Monash University on Gareth-@hotmail.com.
