# 4 in Our Series of Natural Treatment For Cancer
The Macrobiotic Diet
A study conducted by the National Cancer Institute has
concluded that as much as 90 percent of all cancer in humans
have been attributed to environmental factors, including diet.
the term macrobiotics is found in the writings of Hippocrates.
Translated literally, macro is the Greek word for great and
bios is the word for life. Throughout history the practitioners
of the macrobiotic lifestyle live in harmony with nature, eating
a simple, balanced diet, and living to an active old age.
In the 1920s a Japanese educator named George Ohsawa
developed the modern practice of Macrobiotics. Ohsawa is
said to have cured himself of a serious illness using a simple
diet of brown rice, miso soup, and sea vegetables.
At the core of Ohsawa’s writings on Macrobiotics is the
Chinese philosophy regarding yin and yang.
Yin - representative of an outward centrifugal movement,
resulting in expansion. Yin is said to be cold, sweet and
passive.
Yang - representative of an inward centripetal movement,
producing contraction. Yang is considered to be hot, salty
and aggressive.
In the practice of macrobiotics yin and yang must be kept in
balance to attain good health.
The Macrobiotic Diet consists of :
50 - 60% whole grains,
25 - 30% vegetables
5 - 10% beans and sea vegetables
Soups and broths comprise 5-10% of food intake.
For the complete diet and a run down of avoidances to maintain
the yin yang balance visit:

Why Macrobiotic?
People with serious medical conditions, including cancer and
AIDS, try this diet because they have heard it may help cure
their disease. To date, such claims have not been substantiated
by 'controlled research'. But there are many testimonials from
actual people who subscribe to a Macrobiotic Diet/Lifestyle.
These people state they have healed themselves and prolonged
their lives, many after a diagnosis of Cancer, AIDS and other
immune system illnesses.

What Can Massage Therapy Do For You?
The benefits are numerous and the results can be immediate
for many of your daily health problems. Massage therapy has
become increasingly popular in these fast paced times of stress
and the complications with drug therapies. A personal Massage
Therapist is not just for the super athlete or the wealthy business
tycoon any more. Touch is as essential to a healthy and happy life
as eating right, getting proper sleep, and exercising.
Lets explore the reasons why this hands on modality is beneficial
to those with chronic pain and illness, those in recovery from an
injury or those who lead a hectic lifestyle.
* Massage Increases red and white blood cells
* Improves circulation and creates healthy skin
* Provides increased energy
* Releases endorphins (the body's natural pain killers)
* Improves and relaxes areas of strains, sprains, fibrosis,
spasms, and scar tissues
* Helps reduce edema
* Improves immune system functions
* Helps to stabilize the spine, increasing the benefits of
Chiropractic adjustments
* Reduces anxiety level and restores a calm mind and feeling
of wellbeing
A gentle Therapeutic Massage ( for all ages) is frequently used
to enhance the beneficial effects of other types of health care,
Physical and Occupational Therapy, Post Surgical Patients,
Chiropractic, Medical Patients and Psychotherapy.
Along with proper diet and exercise, Massage Therapy helps
restore the contour of the body by reducing fat deposits. Massage
also help muscles stay flexible to allow athletes to train at a higher
level and decrease the chance of injury.
Eastern and Western Massage
There are many different forms or styles of massage available.
These can be generalized into two categories: Eastern and
Western. The primary difference is in their approach to the body.
Some Eastern styles include, Shiatsu, Accupressure and Polarity,
this work involves an understanding of the body's energy.
Western styles include, Swedish, Escalen, Neuromuscular
Therapy, Trager, Myofascial Release, Connective Tissue
Therapy. These are based on an anatomical understanding
of our body.
Each person responds differently to massage. One style is not
suited for all. A well qualified therapist may blend techniques
from several of these styles into a massage session that is right
for you. To sum it up, Massage Therapy has been shown to be
effective in promoting good health and well being for many
individuals.
Pricing ranges from about $50 - $80 per session depending on
your area. Ask your friends for testimonials, question your health
care professional for a reputable licensed Massage Therapist.
Ask to see credentials. Some insurances will cover this modality
and some Chiropractors include a massage with your
adjustments. Always consult your health care professional before
you receive any type of treatment.

STOP PLAYING RITALIN ROULETTE!
by, Maureen Haner
Ritalin has been the drug of choice to quiet hyper-active
children with ADD and ADHD for a number of years.
In a recent article from the Health Science Institute, Jenny
Thompson speaks about the lack of insight American
adults have regarding Ritalin.
For the sake of control, teachers are grateful that this
drug is available and parents are relying heavily on this
chemical to bring their child’s wild behaviors nearer to
“normal” on the scale of life. One and a half million kids
take this drug daily. Does that seem a little odd?
Unfortunately, Ritalin acts a lot like cocaine and today,
there are enough kids using Ritalin on a daily basis to
fill 30 major league baseball parks. Even sadder is the
fact that we don’t know much about the side effects of
this drug. To make this situation even worse, now
Noven Pharmaceuticals is completing the final trial
phase for a Ritalin patch.
That means no more pills to take, no more watching the
clock, no more inconvenience. It is so easy that you just
slap it on and your child is set for 24 hours. There are a
couple of problems to consider. A recent JAMA report
indicates that methylphenidate is a more powerful
stimulant than cocaine. The Christian Science Monitor
reports in a three state survey that teens in drug treatment
facilities said they had used Ritalin to get high. Since it
does not produce an instant high, many teens are
crushing their Ritalin and snorting it like cocaine. The
DEA claims that Ritalin is in the top ten list of drugs
that are stolen.
The MethyPatch is going to be put on the market very
soon and it will be interesting to see if these patches
are going to be a drug of choice as well.
Before you decide on a regimen of Ritalin or the
MethyPatch, please know that there are natural
alternatives that will bring noticeable changes to
your child with ADD or ADHD. In Nutritionally
Incorrect, Dr. Allen Spreen shares, Over 90
percent of children’s behavioral problems can be
attributed to food allergies, chemical sensitivities,
malnourishment, and even high levels of toxic metals
in their tissues.
Take the time to carefully select a doctor and a course
of action that fits your child’s needs. Changes in foods
and schedules may be difficult, time consuming and
initially costly, but the outcome may be a life without
drugs. It is worth every moment of the investigation!

Dear Path ,
My brother works a 12 hour night shift as a security
guard. He is in his late twenties. He was recently
diagnosed with Diabetes and I was wondering if
there could be any connecting to his reversed sleeping
pattern, his regular lack of sleep and this diagnosis?
Beth
Dear Beth,
I recently came across this article below that might just
make a connection to your brother's Diabetes diagnosis.
You're a good sister to want to find some answers. Hope
this helps.

Greetings Human Friends,
My little doggie heart is at it again this month. I am feeling
the pain of many of my house pet pals who have or will
experience the 'heartache' of divorce, separation or relocation.
Sometimes you humans get very busy and caught up in your
own sadness, sorrow and confusion when your lives require
change. Whatever the reason, remember your fury pals are
also experiencing your situation too, both emotionally and
physically.
Their unconditional devotion and love can be a benefit in such
times if you just remember that Fido and Felix are there for your
love and understanding.
Please check out this article with its insights for just such times
and feelings. Until next month, hug your pets.

I find your cancer treatment series quite interesting. My
