#6 In The Series: Cancer Facts and Stats

Since June of this year I have been doing the series on
Natural Treatments for Cancer. I have covered,
Pau D'Arco tea, MGN-3, Laetrile - B17, The Macrobiotic
Diet and Hydrazine Sulfate.

There are several more natural treatments available and
there is much more to explore, such as the benefits of
Wheat Grass and Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA),
mega doses of vitamins, antioxidants and proper diet. In
coming months I will continue addressing other important
treatments, therapies and herbal medicines to create
healing and good health for those dealing with the many
so called 'incurable diseases'.

I will end this Cancer Series by covering the most common
'conventional' treatments.

Cancer Facts and Stats:

Cancer patients are subjected to slow torture and destruction
of their bodies in order to rid themselves of cancer. Conventional
cancer treatments consist of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.

Surgery is for the most common types of cancer, the removal of
a tumor. Studies I have read show this usually causes metastasis,
which may not have occurred without the surgery. The surgeon then
tells the patient, "I got it all." Unfortunately this statement
usually turns out to be wrong.

It is highly likely that some of the cancer cells that are living in
a tumor will remain, not to be caught by the surgeon's scalpel.
A thimble size tumor can house billions of cancer cells.

A 50% rate of tumor reoccurrence is possible according to
several reports. This means you have a 50-50 chance of the
cancer returning and don't forget the major possibility of
metastasis.

A Chemotherapy drug of choice depends on the type of cancer to
be treated. The toxic chemotherapy "cocktail’ administered
doesn't know the healthy cell from the cancer cell, this bomb is not
smart. It just kills indiscriminately.

This is a torturous way to approach a disease! Killing off healthy
dividing cells that are necessary to maintain ones health, cells of
your vital organs, intestines and also the ones that produce your
hair. Is it any wonder why people who receive chemotherapy feel
so terrible?

It's all about the money, the research done by the doctors who
administer these drugs is funded almost entirely by the drug
companies. The scary part is that cancer rates are growing.
Something is wrong with the system when billions of dollars have
been allocated for over 30 years towards "'the war on cancer" and
the cancer deaths continue to increase yearly.

In October of 1971 a list of rare types of cancers that show
favorable results to chemotherapy was issues. Other than those
listed there is nothing stating chemotherapy for the more common
types of cancer greatly improves the survival rate.

The rare cancers listed are: Rhabdomyosarcorna, Retinoblastoma,
Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia, Hodgkin's Disease, Burkitt's
Lymphoma, Choriocarcinoma, Lymphosarcoma, Embryonal
Testicular Cancer, Wilms Tumor, Ewing's Sarcoma.

Radiation therapy works in reducing the size of the tumor. Again
we have a killing of all cells, both healthy and cancerous. A
reduced size tumor is not a cure. Most often the side effects are
painful and harmful.

Please use caution if you decide on conventional therapies, More
often than not you do not have to be subjected to the miserable
ordeal if you arm yourself with knowledge. Research and
participate in your doctor's decision making. If he/she is not
willing to explore alternatives, seek a new doctor.

books by Ralph W. Moss PhD, Antioxidants Against Cancer and

Natural Alternative to Prozac

It seems lately, more often than not people are turning to drugs
to deal with their emotional problems. Prozac is just one of the
many antidepressants that are available through prescription.
These drugs known as SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake
inhibitors) are the class of prescription drugs that work by
increasing the availability of serotonin in synapses (junctions
between neurons) by blocking their reuptake.

Serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5HT) is present in animals, plants,
fruits and nuts. Inside the body, serotonin is produced from the
amino acid, tryptophan and is found in many places particularly
the gastrointestinal system, brain, and blood cells. Once released
from the serotonergic neurons, serotonin acts as a neurotrans-
mitter, attaching to various serotonin receptors. Stimulation of
these receptors will result in numerous clinical effects.

Serotonin imbalance has been implicated in the cause of various
medical disorders including depression, migraine headaches,
sleep disorders, bulimia, and premenstrual syndrome. To date,
medications or homeopathic preparations that attempt to raise
serotonin levels inside the body act by inhibiting serotonin
reuptake systems (SSRIs), increasing the endogenous production
of serotonin (St. John's Wort, 5-HTP, L-tryptophan), or inhibiting
the degradation of serotonin, (Monoamine oxidase inhibitor class
of antidepressants.)

General Description: 5-HTP / Hydroxy Tryptophan is an amino
acid and a building block for serotonin, a precursor. 5-HTP is a
natural supplement that converts in the brain into serotonin.

·Supports healthy sleep patterns and mood
·Provides building blocks for serotonin
·Promotes healthy nerve and brain function

5-HTP is necessary to produce the neurotransmitter serotonin
and is essential for normal nerve and brain function. 5-HTP is not
present in significant amounts in a typical diet. The human body
manufactures 5-HTP from L-tryptophan, a natural amino acid
found in many dietary proteins. However, eating food that contains
L-tryptophan does not significantly increase 5-HTP levels.
Supplemental 5-HTP is naturally derived from the seeds of the
Griffonia Simplicifolia, a West African medicinal plant.

In another application, 5-HTP (300 mg per day) was shown
in a controlled trial to be effective in reducing symptoms of
fibromyalgia, including pain, morning stiffness, sleep
disturbances, and anxiety. Larger doses of 5-HTP (600 mg)
were found to be as effective as medications for reducing
migraine headache pain in adults in two double blind studies.
5-HTP readily crosses the blood-brain barrier (which serotonin
does not). Once 5-HTP makes this jump, it increases central
nervous system synthesis of serotonin. Serotonin from Griffonia
is not chemically held at receptor sites where it can accumulate
and cause side effects. The excess is broken down and eliminated.

The choice of whether to take natural supplements or
pharmaceutical medicines for depression is one that should
be carefully researched and discussed with your Health Care
Provider. Michael T. Murray, N.D., explains in his book Natural
Alternatives to Prozac, that when serotonin levels are inadequate,
"the consequences ...can be devastating, and include plunging
moods, food cravings, ruined sleep, [severe] headaches and just
plain exhaustion."

5-HP. http://www.raysahelian.com/5-htp.html

Holistic Q&A

Hi Margaret,

Can you provide any information on an oil called Perilla Oil?
I heard that it is another form of omega 3 and it can be used in
place of fish oil. This is a concern to me because of mercury
poisoning.

Elaine Frevoli

Hi Elaine,

Perilla oil comes from the seeds of the plant Perilla frutescens,
also called the beefsteak plant, Perilla leaf has long been used as
an herbal medicine and also as a culinary herb, food spice and
garnish in China, Japan, Korea and India.

Perilla oil supplies alpha-linolenic acid and may be superior to the
traditional sources of Omega-3. Until now, fish and flax oils were
the best source of Omega -3 oils, and they can cause unwanted
gastrointestinal side effects.

Published studies document the benefits of alpha-linolenic acid for
the prevention and treatment of a wide range of degenerative
diseases. The high consumption of alpha-linolenic acid in the East
Asian diet may contribute to the lower rates of cancer and
cardiovascular disease found in these countries.

Oral administration of Perilla extracts have been shown to suppress
allergies and inflammation.

According to my research Elaine, Perilla oil appears to be a good
alternative to fish oils.

More Info and Dosage:

Here's a breakdown of its ingredience:

Phoebe's Pet Column:

Greetings Human Friends,

The holiday season is in full swing once again. Have your
kids or grandchildren been asking for a puppy or kitty ?
How sweet....NOT...yes that's right I said NOT.   It's really not
a good idea to bring a new pet into the home during the hectic
holiday season. If you're wondering why please check out this
little article. Read why the best way to handle that pet request
is with a certificate from the local shelter or rescue. Remember
there are many purebreds, as well as mutts available, who really
need a forever home.
