Energy Medicine, Energy Matters

Are you aware of the flow, the balance and the harmony that is
needed to maintain the healthy state of your body?
According to David Feinstein, Ph. D. energy medicine
recognizes energy as a vital, living, moving force that
determines much about health and happiness. In energy
medicine, energy is the medicine, and energy is also the patient.
You heal the body by activating its natural healing energies; you
also heal the body by restoring energies that have become weak,
disturbed, or out of balance. Energy medicine is both a
complement to other approaches to medical care and a complete
system for self-care and self-help. It can address physical illness
and emotional or mental disorders, and can also promote high-
level wellness and peak performance.

The essential principles of energy medicine include:

1. Energies—both electromagnetic energies and more subtle
energies—form the dynamic infrastructure of the physical body.

2. The health of those energies–in terms of flow, balance, and
harmony–is reflected in the health of the body.

3. Conversely, when the body is not healthy, corresponding
disturbances in its energies can be identified and treated.

4. To overcome illness and maintain vibrant health, the body
needs its energies to:

1. Move and have space to continue to move—energies may
become blocked due to toxins, muscular or other constriction,
prolonged stress, or interference from other energies.

2. Move in specific patterns—generally in harmony with the
physical structures and functions that the energies animate and
support. “Flow follows function.”

3. Cross over—at all levels, from the micro level of the double
helix of DNA, extending to the macro level where the left side of
the brain controls the right side of the body and the right side to
the left.

4. Maintain a balance with other energies—the energies may lose
their natural balance due to prolonged stress or other conditions
that keep specific energy systems in a survival mode.

5. Flow, balance, and harmony can be non-invasively restored
and maintained within an energy system by:

a) tapping, massaging, pinching, twisting or connecting specific
energy points on the skin

b) tracing or swirling the hand over the skin along specific energy
pathways

c) exercises or postures designed for specific energies

d) surrounding an area with healing energies (one person’s
energies impacts another’s)

As you can see, the field of Energy Medicine encompasses every
part of our existence and co-existence in this world.

In Future issues The PATH News will explore Energy Medicine,
its effects and potential for healing and offer our readers valuable
understanding and practical applications for abundant health.

Therapeutic Touch: A Basic Energy Medicine Technique
by Margaret Templeton

A number of years ago I attended a weekend course on
Therapeutic Touch (TT). The experience was so rewarding
and educational that I immediately incorporated this simple
energy medicine into my daily life. In my work I have found TT
to be an amazingly effective modality for the holistic needs of
the body, the mind and the spirit. I often use TT with friends,
family, clients, pets and plants.

In this issue devoted to ‘healing energy’ I would like to share a
brief overview of this basic energy medicine approach which is
offered in many clinics and hospitals around the world, to aid in
calming and soothing physical, mental and emotional upset and
pain.

TT is a form of the ancient practice of "laying on of hands." It is
based on the theory that human beings are made up of energy
fields and that energy emanates from the field. The purpose of
TT is to smooth and balance the energies of the person in need.

During a 5 to 20 minute TT session the practitioner works in a
centered, peaceful, meditative state and uses his/her hands held a
few inches above the receiver's body to assess their energy field.
Then with gentle passes of the hands over the receiver the
practitioner will work to create, modulate and support a normal flow
of energy. The receiver remains clothed and may either sit or lie
down for the treatment. A 20 minute rest period after the treatment
helps the energy field to process the work. Many receivers of TT
have given praise and testimony to benefits from these treatments.
Just about anyone with a will to do so can learn TT.

Examples of benefits:

* TT recipients dealing with chronic illnesses give accounts of
decreased symptoms and an increase of quality of life.

* Gentle downward TT stroking over the affected areas can
ease respiratory symptoms, control diarrhea and vomiting, and
reduce the fever and pain associated with AIDS.

* TT has been reported to promote sleep and reduces the
wandering and distressed behaviors of the cognitively
challenged.

* Caregivers and family members who have incorporated TT into
their patient care report positive effects when combined with a
simple back rub, foot or a hand massage.

* Dying persons experience a deep sense of peace when treated
using the Hand-Heart connection modality of TT.

Hand-Heart Connection TT modality for the dying: The right hand
of the provider is placed over the heart of the dying person and a
clear mental intention to send compassion and healing is created.
The dying person receives added energy for their transition to a
more peaceful passing. This close spiritual interaction also benefits
the provider. One can experience an overwhelming sense of
personal peace and the ability to share in a final act of love, proving
to one that when we give we also receive.

Got Energy?
by Alice Lebron

The first step to become engaged in a fully energized life is to
be aware. Are you aware of your energy levels? Begin by
paying attention to your moods, to your posture, and to your
stamina.

In the morning, do you feel fully rested and ready to tackle
the day?

Do you feel achy without any apparent reason?

Do you feel energized or drained after a meeting with friends?

Do you feel lethargic after eating?

Does it take a long time for you to get over common colds or
minor illnesses?

Quick Energy Boosters:

* Eat living foods. Fresh, organic foods full of nutrients and
void of pesticides and other harmful matter.

* Eat more fiber; help your elimination system move any
stagnant, waste matter.

* Do not skip meals. Don’t forget your daily vitamins, minerals
and supplements.

* Breathe; learn the art of energizing through breath. Inhale
deeply to the count of four and exhale completely to the count
of six.

* Exercise, move, stretch. A brisk walk after dinner can do
wonders to your energy bank.

* Practice a few minutes of silence and quiet. Ten to twenty
minutes of daily mental floss will help boost your energy levels.

* Learn something new!

Alice Lebron is a Yoga instructor who resides in Lantana
FL. Alice is our newest TPN contributor. Welcome Alice!

Pet Therapy: Good Healing Energy

Greetings Human Friends,

I have a couple of questions for you. Could you find comfort in
companionship and unconditional love from someone who
would always be there for you? Do you or someone you know
suffer with high BP, heart condition, depression, or another
type of chronic illness? Unrelated inquires you may think.

Well guess what! Research has shown that heart attack
victims who have pets live longer. Pets such as dogs and
cats provide unconditional, nonjudgmental love and affection.
Pets can shift our narrow focus beyond ourselves, helping us
to feel connected to a larger world. So says this website article
on Pet Therapy.

http://www.holisticonline.com/stress/stress_pet-therapy.htm

It covers research on health and well being claims, types of
pets to share your space with and other related articles. If
you have been considering adoption see if you fit the provided
profile. Rescuing a dog or cat in many cases is a great way to
do it. A rescued dog can show appreciation and love beyond
belief. Trust me I know, I am one!

If you already have a pet and have a nice story about how
your pet came into your life, drop an email to Phoebe at
thepathnews dot com. I love a good tail!
