5TH ANNIVERSARY ~ THE PATH NEWS ~ NEW FEATURE
It’s been five years and we’re still going strong. Thanks for
your continued support and loyal membership and a healthy
welcome to our new readers.
New Feature: A Personal Touch
I receive regular emails and phone calls asking me for help in
finding the best suited herb remedy or product for a particular
health related issue or goal. I have received testimonials and
observed some amazing results from people who have applied
my shared info and incorporated it into their nutritional health
habits.
After years of testing many health related products in my
personal life and in my practice I’ve decided to share with
you, my readers some of my personal product information as
it relates to The PATH News articles. These products sites/
emails will be placed at the end of the articles along with
sites I always offer you with more details and views.
The products I suggest I have used myself, or with my family
members, friends or clients. Some have been recommended
through consultations with my dedicated associates in the
alternative health profession.
In some instances I may be affiliated with product lines and
receive a small reseller percentage from a sale, however this
does not and will never influence my judgment in providing the
best product or service information.
At present time one of my preferred product lines is Nature’s
Sunshine Products (NSP). I will offer suggestions for use of
their products often. I have used these products personally
and professionally and find them top quality from their simple
herbal tinctures to there complete “Habit of Health’ 90 day
challenge program. See site below.
Membership gives you a full year of wholesale purchasing
(a substantial savings of up to 40% off) for just one purchase
order of $40 or more. I suggest obtaining membership for the
savings as it is simple to do when you order. This way you
will pay the same as I do for any of their over 500 products
and have the option of promoting the products yourself.
I don’t mean to sound like an annoying product pusher but
this is really a great deal for top quality products.
To visit: My Nature’s Sunshine Site
http://www.mynsp.com/thepathnews/index.aspx
I look forward to serving you in the coming year with
important news, insights, issues, solutions and savings for
your alternative healing and holistic health.
Yours in Sharing,
Margaret

Soy, The Saucy Findings - China vs. U.S.
China - The Study:
A recent study at Shanghai Cancer Institute in China which
was done in collaboration with Vanderbilt University School
of Medicine in Nashville, TN. revealed the effects of soy on
menopausal women. The actual purpose was to further study
previous evidence that soy consumption may increase bone
mineral density in postmenopausal women.
Over 24,000 women age 40 plus participated in the Shanghai
Women's Health Study. Soy intake of each woman was
recorded at the start of the study then a follow up of more
than four years was implemented. The results compiled
included factors such as osteoporosis risk, age, other
nutrients consumed in participant’s diet and socioeconomic
status.
Study Results:
• Risk was reduced by almost 50 percent among women in
early menopause with the highest intake of soy
• A high intake of soy foods was significantly linked with a
reduced risk of bone fracture
• Risk was reduced nearly 30 percent among women who
had the highest soy intake and had been menopausal for
more than a decade
U.S. - What If:
If the same study was conducted in the U.S. where the
greatest amount of soy intake is U.S. produced soy sauce,
tofu and soy milk do you think it would have the same results?
Women would almost certainly not enjoy any reduction in
fracture risk. In fact, they might very well be at greater risk.
Read on to understand why.
Study Facts To Consider:
• The study was conducted in Asia where the consumption
of soy is most often in fermented form which is not the case
in the U.S.
• Soy contains phytates that block absorption of proteins and
minerals, such as calcium.
•The phytates in soy are deactivated when soy is fermented.
(Phytates are phosphorus compounds found primarily in cereal
grains, legumes, and nuts. They bind with minerals such as iron,
calcium, and zinc and interfere with their absorption in the body.)
The mineral blocking effect of phytates is reduced when soy
is eaten with meat or fish but many women in the U.S. are
replacing meat or fish with soy. Phytates are greatly reduced
when soy is properly fermented the traditional Chinese way
such as in tempeh, miso or soy sauce. The phytates are
neutralized, allowing the proper absorption of nutrients.
Read the follow site for a brief history of soybeans.
Why You Should Avoid Soy:

Peel Me A Grape
Grapes were first cultivated near the Caspian Sea. In pre-
biblical times their use as food and drink spread throughout
the Mediterranean world. Ancient Greeks held the belief that
grapes had magnificent healing properties. Today's scientists
confirm when used and not abused, wine has many health
benefits. These benefits may be acquired with Grape Seed
Extract....the wine without the alcohol.
French studies show oil pressed from grape seeds contains
essential fatty acids and are rich in vitamin E compounds.
Also contained in the grape seeds are powerful antioxidants.
Holistic practitioners advise that increasing intake of
antioxidant nutrients can reduce the risk of more than 60
different health disorders including cancer and
arteriosclerosis and can slow down the aging process.
Antioxidants can't get rid of heavy metals and solvents,
but they do cut down on the damage they do while they're
there. As toxins pass through your body, they generate
metabolic reactions resulting in free radicals (unstable
molecules that damage healthy tissue). Antioxidants
clean them up. One should increase their intake of
antioxidant nutrients, try to reduce exposure to
free radicals from industry, the sun, x-rays, auto
exhaust, mercury, cadmium, lead, cigarette smoke, and
other harmful chemicals and compounds from food, water
and air.
Grape seed extract is used in Europe to improve
circulation. It is believed to benefit cardiac and
cerebral circulation. Another potential benefit of grape
seed extract is anti-inflammatory activity. Research has
also shown that grape seed may slow macular degeneration,
improve visual stress and reduce myopia. The polyphenols
in grape seed stops the growth of Streptococcus mutans, a
bacteria that causes tooth decay and slows the conversion
of sucrose (table sugar) into glucan, and as a consequence
of both these actions, may have a role in maintaining
dental health.
Capillaries may be fragile due to diabetes or other
disorders. In four small studies, grape seed extract was
better than placebo at improving peripheral circulation as
well, resulting in less pain and swelling, fewer nighttime
cramps, and less numbness and tingling.
Grape seed oil can be used for cooking. It has a gentle
flavor and a high smoking point and is rich in omega-6
fatty acids.

Holistic Q&A

Hi There,
I HAVE CHRONIC CONSTIPATION. I am healthy enough
Otherwise. Any help on this would be appreciated.
Lou
Dear Lou,
Before I could suggest a program for your internal needs I
Would need to talk with you or have you take the ‘Health
Analyzer’ test on my Nature’s Sunshine site.
http://mynsp.com/thepathnews
However here’s a suggestion to get things moving that is
pretty basic for anyone in your situation. Take magnesium
tablets/capsules 250mgs to tolerance. Start with 1 the first
day then 2 the next day, 3 the next,(Space them throughout
the day.) and so on till you have a soft BM. Skip the day of
the soft BM and then on the following day resume taking
the amount you took before the soft BM. This is your
recommended dosage for regular daily BMs. Of course,
always consult your health care professional before any
procedure.
Magnesium is available at most health food stores, or at
my NSP website.

Hope this helps.

What should I feed my dog?
Greetings Human Friends,
Unless your dog has figured out how to dial the phone and order
out, the humans of the house are responsible for his/her care and
feeding. There are several options for feeding Fido. Here is a site
that can help you chose and calculate your best friend’s nutritional
needs.
